France Le deuxième souffle 4K UHD (1966) - Le chat qui fume

A most wonderful news announced by Le chat qui fume: https://x.com/lechatquifume/status/1...155242622?s=46

New 4K restoration of Jean-Pierre Melville’s masterpiece is in the works.
Criterion should have released a Blu-ray long ago, so thankfully we’re getting something sooner than later from LCQF.

Yes, this could be an April Fool’s Joke as seen in the Tweet but it seems very unlikely as this announcement isn’t that big of a holy grail compared to the John Woo or Theo Angelopoulous films for example which would be more appropriate for such a joke.

Seems a huge title for Le Chat Qui Fume to get but they are releasing Eyes Without A Face so who knows?

It would also join a small group of films to jump from DVD to UHD with no Blu-ray.

If this is true, this will be the first LCQF title I'll buy.

They just recently teased that they are working on 2 French classics from the 60s, so this is one of them.

Hopefully this means Criterion is working on this, as this release is unlikely to be English friendly.

I want this more than I want my legs. I often compare Melville to Michael Mann (my two favorite directors), and Le Deuxieme Souffle is Melville's HEAT. This is one of my last DVDs that I own.

Been waiting on Criterion forever. I know this probably won't have English subs. With Criterion readying Le Samourai on 4k, I doubt they will get two Melville films out so close together. So, I'm happy a restoration is coming, but its frustrating to know I won't be able to have an English friendly version of it, at least anytime soon.

The other being L'Aîné des Ferchaux.

Fantastic news. This is one of my favourite French classics. Hopefully, Criterion will release it in the USA. You really cannot go wrong with Melville. (Well, maybe "Un flic," but even that has its moments.)

The release could take a while. LCQF's other Melville UHD, L'aîné des ferchaux, is currently in the process of having its OCN scanned at Éclair. No updates regarding Le deuxième souffle in particular but I won't expect anything for a while, similar to the Kino UHD announcements.

Funny Un Flic is one of my favorite Melville films. I use Un Flic as a Melville gateway drug to so many people who love cinema but somehow have yet to discover Melville.

The more Melville, the better. Le deuxième souffle and Les Enfants Terribles need Blu-ray/4K releases here in the US. Hoping that changes soon!

I like Un Flic a lot, but damn that model train / helicopter sequence almost derails the whole film.

Has the version by Le chat qui fume been released yet?
I absolutely need to upgrade the Korean DVD I've got of this film.
