The new film from Adam Elliot, who made the Oscar-winning animated short Harvie Krumpet and the brilliant, heartbreaking feature Mary & Max. This looks amazing.

This just won the top prize at the BFI London Film Festival.

I saw this earlier today, and I thought it was really great. It honestly felt like i was watching a biopic, in the sense that the lives of the characters were written with so much detail that they felt real. There's a great deal of dark, and tragic stuff in here, and some of it is actually a little disturbing, but there's also a lot of humor that thankfully lightens the gloomy tone somewhat. I found myself cracking up at some scenes, but also tearing up at some others as well. I also found it to be an uplifting film too. I have social anxiety, and it can be a real struggle to push myself to do things, so a lot of what the main character, Grace, is going through resonated quite a bit with me, and ultimately I found it quite cathartic. Excellent stop-motion animation too. I haven't seen Mary & Max yet, so this was my first time seeing this type of character style, and I kind of loved their quirky, imperfect designs. If this is playing near you, I highly recommend checking it out.

I loved Mary & Max & after now seeing Memoir Of A Snail, i think it is every bit as good.
It's a toss up between this & Robot Dreams as my favourite animated film of the year so far & i've still got Vengeance Most Fowl & That Christmas to look forward to.

It was released here not that long ago, still being screened in cinemas.
So far it's the best film I've seen at the cinema this year, having seen 18 there so far.

It's also one of those my significant other finds magnificent, so a double win in my book.

Last week we rewatched it from a Blu-ray I imported from the States.
We just like it as much as the first time, a masterpiece this little film from down under.
