I loved the book. And I thought it was scary too. Just praying the film is decent at least.

Trailer seemed kinda popcorny compared to The Shining, but the creative team said they're trying to reconcile King's new work with the broader mindshare that Kubrick's overriding icronography has.
Hoping it's at least decent like It '17 was. I've been watching Stephen King adaptations my whole life and they're always a good time. |

If it was any horror writer/director but Mike Flanagan doing this I would have very low expectations, but Oculus, Hush and especially the Haunting of Hill House on Netflix blew me away. Very excited

Just watched the trailer, I know it's a continuation story with plenty of flashbacks and what have you, I just didn't like all the re-imaging of the same scenes from the Shining...twins standing in the hall, blood wave coming from the elevator doors, old lady in tub pulling back the curtain and several more, heh, I mean I get he's having flashbacks but it kinda put me in mind of Jurassic World where they sorta "redid" several popular scenes from the original as well, gives it a stale, "been here, seen that" feeling. Probably just me tho, hoping it's great of course!

I finished the book a few weeks ago and it didn't strike me as a story that would make a particularly good film, especially not a good horror movie, but early impressions are good so I have some hope. Rebecca Ferguson has a heavy load to carry but she should be up to the task. My main concern is that the book just wasn't scary. There were some tense moments but it never came close to getting under my skin like classic King novels do. To me it felt more like a thriller than a traditional horror story.

I assume the initial portion of the book (up until
[Show spoiler] ) will be omitted or glossed over via flashbacks or dialog. That alone should make the book pretty manageable and yeah, I agree it isn't particularly scary (at least so far, I'm just past [Show spoiler] ). But a lot of the horror elements can come through the direction/cinematography/general mood of the piece. I'm really optimistic about this, maybe foolishly so lol
