Hey everyone,
I’m really looking forward to the new 3-disc Imprint steelbook of The NeverEnding Story coming this August. But I’ll be honest — I’m feeling a bit cheated that the German Extended Cut is only included in HD and not in 4K, especially since the 5-disc edition from earlier this year already had the 4K disc pressed and ready. The German cut has always felt like something special to me — with the extra scenes and the Klaus Doldinger score, it’s a different experience than the U.S. theatrical version. So its absence in 4K here is disappointing, considering how complete the previous release was. The steelbook still looks fantastic and includes a 4K UHD of the U.S. cut, which is great. But I can’t help wondering — for those of us who missed the 5-disc set, are we really getting the best version available? Would love to hear your thoughts — is this still worth picking up? |

Here’s a great video overview for those who haven’t seen it yet:
That said… would I be crazy to also pick up the German 4K UHD (LC‑1103‑029) release separately? It includes the extended cut in full 4K HDR10, which the Imprint set doesn’t. I know it's a bit of a collector move, but my thinking is: The Imprint SteelBook has all the extras and packaging I want The German disc gives me the extended version in proper 4K Both discs are region-free (UHD), so swapping one into the Imprint set is totally doable |

Collector and Logic doesn't work together.
![]() If you want a collector's opinion, buy everything that gives you the complete-est version. If you have to forge together your own custom steelbook that holds all the discs you want, then that's what you'll have to do. That's true collector's logic around here ![]() |

I have the German 4K edition which includes the Blu-ray, and I just frankensteined the old Blu-ray into that. I have to be careful about how many big box limited editions and duplicates I buy as I am fast running out of space. |
