Has anyone noticed slight pulsing (flickering/flashing) on some BD's? I remember hearing a bit about it when 300 came out, but nothing since. I have watched a lot of BD's over the past 6 months, but never noticed this until now. On the last 4 BD's I have watched I have noticed it and it is starting to really bother me. On Superman II, From Hell, and Resident Evil 1, I can see pulsing in the backgrounds and faces. On Sunshine, which I most recently watched, I did not see it. Is it the transfer or the PS3?

I noticed a pulsing effect on PE. It was a static effect, like someone running a blender and causing grounding problems, then pulsing in and out. Only disc I have seen that on. I returned it to Amazon for another copy, which had it also, but not as bad. I would say its a defect in the disc.

I-frame pulsing, maybe? I was under the impression that it was mostly seen on DVD and lower bitrate encodes (I know people have reported seeing it on the King Kong HD DVD), so I don't know why it would be on RE1...

This pulsing effect. I can't believe this. I first saw it on Planet Earth a while back, in bird's eye shot of a field / marsh area. The grass was pulsing... I thought that was pretty terrible then but figured it was luck of the draw and probably the result of some sloppy quality control, which seems to be the way to go now.
And then... I just finished the 300 on PS3. I am blown away, the pulse was so bad that I thought it was unwatchable. I played around with all my settings, on the PS3 and the TV, a 1080p Sharp Aquos... and I couldn't get rid of it. I really don't understand how this is happening or acceptable. I don't know every technical detail of the blu-ray's video process, and I may be blindly a visual snob, but I used to do a lot of 2K and HD finishing... and if I ever delivered a project for finish, with that level of pulsing, I'd be quite embarrassed. Or fired, honestly. I've seen lab's send a project back for far less issues, and rightfully so. I don't think anyone else in the business would find this acceptable either, so I'm going to believe this is a blu-ray production problem. Is there a definitive answer to this issue? I just started really looking into this tonight. Has there been any attempt by blu-ray manufactures to address and resolve this? |

Well I've watched 300 and never noticed any of this "pulsing". In fact I've never noticed it on any of my BD's and by the sound of it I would notice it if it was happening. I play mine on a PS3 and not a standalone if that would make a difference.
