Ha, yeah, I quite liked this. Good thriller even if the director is a bit too in love with Washington's body. The DVD upscales really well so a proper high def should look crisp, mate.

It is cheesy and over the top but it is good.

I can remember this film came out when I was a little kid and Ice-T (who only really has a small role) was more famous than Denzel who was the main lead.

How times change!

I've got this on R2 DVD from studio canal, would upgrade to BR but no way this would get a UK release.

I think it was Warner dvd in the US? I know it was produced by Joel Silver via Silver pictures but no idea who would be releasing this nowadays.

Lithgow is excellent as the bad guy.

one of the better early 90's action/thrillers. Denzel at this best! John Lithgow chewing up the scenery as Earl Blake!

I bought the film again as a double dip the Spanish version and the picture quality whilst 2:35 is awful and the sound is tinny/muffled.

This needs a blu-ray release.

After reading your quote I put in my DVD of this film and it is NOT cropped to 1:85.1. It is in aspect ratio of 2:35.1. You must be going by the information on Amazon.com which is wrong. I got this DVD at least ten years ago and the PQ definitely needs a major upgrade because the HBO Home Video DVD doesn't do the film justice and looks as if it was taken from a grainy source. I highly doubt that DP Peter Levy shot this movie in this way when he would film Judgment Night, which was gritty and dark perfectly two years later.

I wouldn't be surprised if either the Warner Archive or Shout Factory releases this in the future. I would hope Shout because this movie was drastically cut due to test screenings and was much more darker and was much more violent than what finally came out theatrically and they could do a special edition featuring both cuts if the deleted scenes are still available to do so. Till then the DVD, is passable for now.

Hugely entertaining and often hilarious thriller with Denzel Washington and, in one of his best performances, John Lithgow. WB film stuck with HBO, which released an amazingly shitty DVD

Apologies for bumping this old thread, but has anyone checked out this HD stream on HBO Max? I’m not a subscriber, so have no way of looking at it myself. The HD trailer I found is cropped to 1.78:1. Was wondering if the stream has been cropped too or if it’s in the original 2:39:1.

I’m still rocking my HBO/Warner DVD here. Even though it’s non-anamorphic and the PQ definitely leaves something to be desired, the (2.35:1) framing is (essentially) correct.

Thanks for your input.

Its cropped. I wish someone would release this on Blu-Ray, or just properly onto streaming somewhere as I refuse to watch it unless I can see it in 2.35:1
