Intrigued by this one - the Kino disc wasn't bad, one of their better encodes for sure. If the encode is at least equal and they fix the audio I'll consider grabbing this.
IIRC there's one (or a couple) bits where lines of dialogue were missing (the Kino disc only included a remix, no OG audio). Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, though. |

From DVDCompare:
The Kino release is missing 2 portions of audio: - When Princess Vespa says "Nobody talks to me that way. "Nobody!" and shouts "NOBODY!" in the desert, it lacks the additional echoes afterward. - Dot Matrix's line of "Ohh! No Vespa! Don't! Vespa!" before Dark Helmet tricks Vespa is missing (although subtitles for this line are present). |

The Kino does have OG audio, it likely has the 70mm mix, Spaceballs has been in 5.1 since 1996 on LaserDisc. If Kino used the 70mm sound elements which did not have those edits because they were added later, that would be the root of the issue. For Hard Target they also used DTS 5.0 which did not have additional LFE sweetening from previous Uni discs. The part with Dot plays fine with and without her line, I can see if that was added for home video or the 35mm version. Something similar happened with their North Shore Blu ray where an entire damn scene is missing because it wasn't in the OCN. I might update this if the PQ is a step up but I already forgot about the audio bits.

The OG VHS had the missing audio bits. Definitely not something added in ‘96.
