Default Dark Winds on AMC

Does anyone know anything about this upcoming show? Also does AMC tend to put their stuff out on disk? We can't really do streaming due to our internet and would really like to buy this due to everyone involved in it. It sounds like it's going to be a great show!

Here's a trailer. Many AMC shows are eventually released on BD, but AFAIK nothing has been announced yet for this particular one.

It's based off a Tony Hillerman novel. They adapted it before as a movie with Lou Diamond Phillips called Dark Wind in 1991.
If it does well and they continue it with a few seasons it might improve the chances of a physical release. Then again they also want to make you pay for their streaming service.

Mostly has to do with who produces it not who airs it, but in some cases, like this, the production studio is the same as who airs it. AMC is decent about shows getting released though. This will also air on TV so you don't need internet to stream it.

AMC+ doesn't have many exclusives, it's mostly used to release week-early episodes for some of the shows on their network... but Ragdoll was AMC+ exclusive and it's getting a BD release. This one in particular is also going to air on TV so it wouldn't need the streaming service for it.

Well, that's the other problem, we don't have cable either. Just an antennae on the house to get network TV. (basic, basic cable, meaning just network, is $65 a month here, for what we can get for free with the antennae, to get anything more than that it's $85+, which is why we buy disks and borrow from the library) I'd much rather spend that $100 a month on physical media.

My husband loves Tony Hillerman books, and we own the DVDs of Skinwalkers, Thief of Time, and Coyote Waits from the PBS series. As an aside, his daughter took over when Tony died and she really does an awesome job! He's reading her latest book that just came out and says some spots are better than her father's writing.

But from the production, to the director, to the writers (all of whom are Native Americans) it's very exciting! So having physical disks would be great!! (even if only on DVD, which I hope not)

This looks really interesting.

I'm tempted to order some Tony Hillerman books now.

I haven't read them, but my husband loves them, and highly recommends them. He loves Anne's books too, like I said, so if you do get into them don't forget to get hers too. He started randomly with Skinwalkers and said it was a great intro to his writing, and his first book where Leaphorn and Chee work together, they are in other book before that just not as partners.

Well it was upon reading your posts that got me looking up Tony Hillerman. Also anything set in the American West/South West, particularly New Mexico and Texas always piques my interest.

Ordered a copy of the first three Joe Leaphorn novels.

Thanks for the recommendation.

My husband told me to tell you that if you love that area then you'll love his books since it's basically another character in them. It's so important to the stories.

Wow, excited for this, just saw the preview. I've read quite a few of the Hillerman books but need to check out the new ones, I didn't know his daughter was writing too.

I've seen other authors where this happened (either chosen or ghost writers) and they just couldn't do it right, But Anne, she's nailing it! She's a little easier to figure the endings out, but it doesn't detract from anything and they're still good reading.

Oh I'm going to have to figure out how to watch this! Not sure we can wait to see if they put it out on physical, sure hope they do though since like I said above we have Hillerman's other stuff on DVD (no blu available as it's produced by PBS and it's pretty old so I doubt they'll ever give it something better- maybe if this show is successful they'll consider it!)

Glad to hear people are liking it so far!!

Episode 3 is up. First season is only 6 episodes, too.

I loved Longmire and with a cast member from it headlining this show, I'm pretty happy with it after two episodes on AMC.

I also see parts of this show that remind me of Justified.
