Default I just bought my first TV in 16 years.

I know, absolutely shocking. I was content with my Toshiba Regza 1080p that I bought way back in 2008 for £729.99. And it still works!

Anyway. I've not been as enthused with watching films lately with not being part of the 4K crew. So it was time.

It's a Sharp 50FJ2K 50". Not as good as what most of you probably have but for the price I'm happy.

Only cost £244.99 and after messing around with the picture settings I'm quite happy with it. Sound isn't the best but I'll get a sound bar at some point anyway.

Picture I took doesn't do it justice but it feels great to finally have a 4K TV

I just need to get a proper TV stand now.

It's a sort of cowgirl-style arrangement, then?

I've heard of techno-porn, but this is ridiculous!!

I bought a 1080p Toshiba set back when they first came out, I think it was 2005-06ish. It was 1,800 for a 42", I gave it to my friend who still to this day uses it outside in his he-shed lol. It has its issues but damn, you don't see many items giving you almost 2 decades of service these days. I think there is good reason tv's are now half the price that they use to be, quality and especially dependability are also half of what they use to be it seems.

It's mad how long it has lasted. It's the longest lasting TV in all of my family in recent times. But the picture was definitely lacking compared to more recent 1080p set ups so going from the Toshiba to a 4K is like a night and day difference and has reignited my passion for watching film again.

Have you ever considered wall-mounting it?

My Panasonic has been on the wall for about 4 years now, with problems. I put it up there myself, and it makes for a much tidier arrangement.

I have, but, because of the size/shape of the living room it would be difficult to sit in a comfy position to watch the tv, as it is now it's a perfect seating position but yes I do think a wall mount makes everything look cleaner. Plus I live in a hotel so I'd need the directors permission and I don't plan on living here for the rest of my days so don't want to make too much effort

A compromise like this might be good.

Grats man enjoy the TV. and please dont worry about what others have, ive come to learn in recent years its not worth trying to compete. Its not worth going into even debt. If your happy with your purchase enjoy it and to hell with what everyone thinks.

FYI I recommend a good popcorn movie to break it in ... Maybe Twister ...

Also consider buying a wall mount off ebay for your TV. Personally I wall mount everything i think it looks best having everything in wall and hidden. If your deadset on a new stand check out Ikea they have some nice ones.

Yeah I just don't see how a TV that would be ten times the price would have that much more to offer you know? I watched Rise, Dawn and War for the Planey of the Apes Saturday night as my first viewings, mind blowing picture.

Glad you enjoyed it man.

I can tell you that yes there are color and processor differences in the more expensive models. I bought a 77" Sony for a Ps5 3 years ago, while its great its not worth the debt I put myself into. I bought a 55" OLED for my office, while the color is superb compared to all my other TV's it was not worth the debt I put myself into. I bought my kid a 55" Sony TV for gaming PS4/and Switch, while its a great TV for all purpose it wasn't worth the debt I put myself into.

Higher end TVs when properly calibrated will look phenomenal, but I don't know your viewing habits or your income. I can tell you if you ever do want to invest contact Robert Zohn on these forums he owns a shop. He can steer you in a honest right direction.

I'm a movie buff and a electronic elitist, I waste to much money on electronics and goodies. Then I spend time hiding it to pay it back from my wife its not very healthy lol

Yeah you are right I don't know much about the differences and the nuances in the technical side of things, but my budget is definitely not in the thousands thats for sure plus my living room wouldn't be big enough for anything bigger with having to sit back further away from the bigger screens

Also, this TV is light as a feather, my old tv weighs an absolute ton

If you can afford it id recommend a sonos sound bar. You can expand to rears and a sub as necessary all wireless controlled via your phone. Audio is where its at.

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/sonos-a...?skuId=6411132

Or they have an entire package

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/combo/s...4-df9cfebb7f65

Heres the wall mount for it

Seems like you've been able to pay it back without the wife finding out, so all in all it sounds like it worked out quite nice for you!

Well I have gotten her on board for building a theater in my basement. Told her she could decorate it how she wants as long as its true art deco. She is now quite invested in the next project in the house once we finish the main floor. I actually have her convinced to let me put whatever audio and video I want in. Right now I am dead set on that Sony 100" TV and like 35 grand in audio equipment lol

I agree, I am itching to upgrade reading upgrade posts from others. I just tell myself that if I buy something very high quality right away, the itch will be less.

Maybe it's just a way to justify buying nice gear...
