Default Warner regarding catching up w/ BD releases

So much for the Warner-is-limiting-BD-releases-because-they-secretly- want-HD DVD-to-win-wishful-thinking-FUD repeatedly spewed by HD DVD-zealots in some other forums.

http://www.thedigitalbits.com/#mytwocents

"WHV's objective is to have triple day and date releases for all new theatrical titles on DVD, HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc...."

"We also plan to make every effort to "catch-up" the 2006 titles currently only out on HD DVD with the Blu-ray versions in 2007. There are two reasons that the discrepancy exists. One has to do with the interactivity layer for BD with respect to picture-in-picture functionality. Some of our titles like Batman Begins and V for Vendetta have extensive interactive experiences and we don't want the Blu-ray consumer to have a "lesser" experience. We expect that this enhanced interactivity will be ready on the Blu-ray side soon.."

So, Bill responded to the BS by getting an actual quote. Good for him.

Time for a lot more posts (elsewhere) about a river in Egypt.

I sure hope 'we don't want the Blu-ray consumer to have a "lesser" experience' means lossless audio.

I hope by "soon" they mean "very soon" and by "very soon" I hope they mean our titles will be released in Q1. I want my Warner titles!

Interactivity (BD-J & BDLive) is the final step that BD needs to achieve in order to begin to reach it's full potential.

They did it on Sopranos (and the HD DVD doesn't even have TruHD!).

Let's hope they keep it up.

Imagine the response of the HD DVD supporters if the WB discs start releasing on BD with LPCM all of the time...

paidgeek (the Sony insider) said that BD50 is going to be 75-80% of the release format. LPCM would seem to be the rule with all of that space to work with..

Default Warner is maybe starting to get it.

Soprananos has 5.1 LPCM on BD and only dd+ on hd dvd.

Hopefully the LPCM on BD will be a new Warner fad or something

Interesting. I hope it's a new trend, but somehow I doubt it.

So combined with the news that even on the beloved Amazon, Superman Returnns on BD (even with no lossless audio) surpassed the HD DVD in sales rank (BD 512 HD DVD 612 when I looked), it must be a bit of a stark day for HD DVD supporters.

I welcome a wait for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Batman Begins, and other unreleased titles if it means they come with PiP and LPCM audio...!

To be honest I have no idea how it will work. I may well pick up The Descent to check this out.

Man, I have been hoping that Warner would finally come to its collective senses on the lossless audio for BluRay releases. Let's bring on Batman Warner my HT awaits!

Well, if Warner is gonna do LPCM (hopefully 24/48), then the film I want to see them do right is Happy Feet.

That film is EYE-CANDY! It helps that it's funny too.

I hadn't looked until I read your message. Wow, what a pop for BD. It rocketted past the number HD DVD had just two days ago!

Xmas buying of DVD has clearly ended.
