Default Sony OLED is dying on the vine

I'm trying to find data that points out the direct cause of this decline.

Sony has a small and declining share in the OLED TV market, holding about 5.4% of global TV revenue in 2024, down from 9.5% in 2021. Market share data specifically for the OLED segment isn't directly available, but the trend indicates a lower position compared to competitors like LG and Samsung.

Key points about Sony's OLED market position
Declining Share:

Sony's overall TV market revenue share fell to 5.4% in 2024, a decrease from 9.5% in 2021, suggesting a reduced presence in the broader market, which includes OLEDs.

How this affects the OLED market

Limited Presence:

Sony is a less significant player in the OLED TV market compared to LG and Samsung, which are the main brands in this segment.

Market Dynamics:

While Sony has high-quality products like the Sony Bravia 8 II QD-OLED, its overall market strategy appears to be focusing on other technologies, leading to a smaller share of the growing OLED market.

This is eerily reminiscent of when Sony left the plasma TV market in 2005.

Might have to do with the fact the Sony TVs are 5k while the Samsung and LG are 3k

I couldn't find any $5000 Sony OLEDs at Best Buy today; the closest was the 77" A95L for $4500 The next highest priced was the 83" Bravia XR 80L for $3800. The rest ranged from $1100- $3000.

I did find the 83" Samsung S95 for $5800 and the 83" S90F for $4300. The rest were $1000-$3500.

LG had the priciest options of all: $60,000 for the SIGNATURE 77" Class OLED T Transparent followed by $25,000 for the 97" G5 and $8000 for the 97" M3. You can get the 97" G2 "on clearance" for $9000.

LG offers the 77" Z3 for a more "reasonable" $7000 and the 83" G5 for $5997. The 83" M3 is $5500.

The 77" G5, the 83" G4, and the 83" C5 are each $4000. The rest range from $700-$3500.

LG has the widest selection of pricey OLEDs with 7 models above $5000, so there must be a market for them.

LG and Samsung will drop their prices as time goes on. Like the LG G4 77 inch was going for under 3K at Best Buy, I now believe they're out of inventory.
