The good folks at EyePop 3D have now launched their much-anticipated Kickstarter for a 3D stereoscopic and anaglyph blu ray of the 1961 cult sci-fi Phantom Planet! And from the looks of the clips they've release so far, this promises to be their best 3D upconversion yet -- and, in this case, of a sci-fi title where we really can appreciate the 3D!

Pledged!

I will back this but the rewards listed are inconsistent so I am a little confused as to what is included with Platinum and Double Platinum.

Platinum Edition is much like our recent EYEPOP-3D releases Single Disc 3D Blu-ray with Slipcover, Lobby Cards, Mini-Poster Insert & Trading Card.

Double Platinum ADDS a Second Blu-ray with it's own packaging and slipcover with the HFR version of the films and over an hour of bonus features.

Having just checked this there was a typo in the description which implied the HFR version would be included but realistically it would never fit on one disc with the other two versions.

The Intro video is a bit long but does cover all of the rewards in some detail.

Looks like a really nice conversion from Eyepop3D. Nicely done.

I don't like HFR or tat but I do like double disc editions so I had a bit of a dilemma, DOUBLE Platinum wins the day this time!

Sir Andrew of Murchie, I’m in for the double platinum with lenticular. I don’t as a rule like HFR, but I’m curious to see what it’ll look like in 3-D, plus I don’t wanna miss out on the extra extras or the lenticular!

Also, over a quarter of the way there already and much of the day is still before us!

And, for those of you out there who haven’t yet backed this most welcome release, I can vouch for the entertainment quality of this film, one of the best ‘50s/‘60s “space maidens” movies out there — if you liked Cat Women of the Moon, its (slightly superior IMO) remake/knockoff Missile to the Moon, or its hilarious spoof Amazon Women on the Moon, you’re gonna totally dig this, much less well known but certainly no less entertaining and sometimes even moreso, and hell, it’s gonna be in EYEPOPping 3-D for the first time ever!

My gold standard is Queen of Outer Space, how does it compare to that?

I knew I had forgotten one — although I haven’t actually seen it yet! I purposely didn’t mention Fire Maidens from Outer Space because it’s terrible, not one hundredth as good as The Phantom Planet.

Andrew, I'd already ordered the basic blu ray before I got around to viewing your 29-min. intro video for the project. I'd love to get your 3D conversion of King Dinosaur but I am not interested in any of the other items included in the Space Commander package. Any chance you may eventually be offering the King Dinosaur conversion as its own blu ray or digital download?

At this moment I don't really have any plans beyond getting Phantom Planet out there - although I've been doing the Plan-D conversions and my usual bits and pieces it's taken pretty much a year to get Phantom Planet to this stage, so my brain is a bit of a frazzle!

I can't really be sure what I'm doing once this disc is finally out.

I'm not sure my accent is pure Scots enough as I'm told I have a little touch of South African in there too! I'll maybe try to be a bit broader in my accent for my next update video!

The Phantom Planet Kickstarter has been trundling along at a laidback pace, seems to be slowest yet nearly a week in and not hit primary goal yet... Video Update coming next week.

Some premium rewards are Kickstarter Exclusives and apart from a few over-runs will NOT be available after the Kickstarter.

If anyone is thinking of backing this, remember Kickstarter doesn't take payment UNTIL (A) Project is definitely fully funded and (B) the end date of the Kickstarter Campaign which is March 23rd - so you don't need to stump up the cash right away.

C’mon guys, we gotta get this sucker funded — and that $20K stretch goal of A Trip to the Moon in 3-D would be absolutely epic. Please please PLEASE let that happen!
