Default Can Sony BDP-S300 play PAL?

I've got some Region 2 PAL DVDs. I'd like to rip them and set the region to 0. But they'll still be in PAL.

Will my BDP-S300 play PAL discs if they are Region 0? I'd like to know before I burn a DL DVD.

Default Yes and no

I've tried it on the US Sony. It plays for a fraction of a second (I saw the FBI screen briefly) then it says it's the wrong region and the screen blacks out. But the timing on the display keeps ticking and when I pressed Menu on the remote it says Menu. So I concluded it has the hardware capable of playing PAL but is 'prevented' from outputting it.

In fact there are dual-region (1,2 for DVD, A & B for BD) US S300 and S500 players with or without HD-SDI mod now available.

Probably beating a dead horse...but when Capricorn One is involved, I'm going to need to absolutely confirm...

But there are a couple region free PAL BRDs that I'd love to get.

Has anyone had luck with this? A PAL DVD won't play for me on my BDP-S300. But, are Blu-Rays different than PAL DVDs?

Yes, there are no PAL or NTSC Blurays.
1080p is the same regardless.

PAL and NTSC DVD are different resolutions.

So, this link:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Capricorn-On...3694588&sr=8-2

...identifies the disc as PAL. This is incorrect and my player should handle it?

And, if they're different resolutions, can I expect that picture won't fill the screen?

Default Sony BDP-S300 play pal

If You're looking to play pal movies then they will not work in American players, you will need to buy an international dvd player that will play any movie in the world. Just type in either international player or playing pal movies in yahoo or google. I believe there was another thread on this issue a while ago that stated that blu-ray players can not play pal movies. If you are unsure of what movies will play in blu-ray players then go to xploitedcinema because they have a region map of where blu-ray movies will play in.

The information is Boll**ks!!!. Phase Alternate Line is an interlaced 625 line TV system. It has no relevance whatsoever to 1080P. On this title even the aspect ratio printed on the case (4:3) is wrong... it's scope (bars top & bottom).

The best DVD player i've seen that is region free and upscales is the oppo.

www.oppodigital.com

I doubt any USA BD player will play PAL DVD out of the box.

So, ignoring the DVD comments, I should be able to import Blu-Rays from Europe and play them on my BDP-S300 without any problem?

Region code depending. USA is A, Europe (incl. UK) is B. There are many region free and multi region titles though. It's a good idea to find some picks of the case, then you can see the region logo.
