USA Breaking Away (1979) is coming to Blu-ray!

Release date: January 20th

PRE-ORDER http://www2.screenarchives.com/title...ING-AWAY-1979/

Quote:
Special Features: Isolated Score Track / Audio Commentary with Actor Dennis Christopher, and Film Historians Julie Kirgo and Nick Redman / Road to Adulthood / Original Theatrical Trailer
Quote:
Breaking Away (1979) is an utterly endearing coming-of-age story about a quartet of recent high school graduates—working-class “townie” kids in the university town of Bloomington, Indiana—trying to sort out their possibilities. Played, superlatively, by Dennis Christopher, Dennis Quaid, Daniel Stern, and Jackie Earle Haley, this is a group coming to terms with their own outsider status and realizing that they won’t be able to depend on each other forever. Director Peter Yates (in a surprising departure from the likes of Bullitt) gives us a lovely, sunlit interpretation of Steve Tesich’s Oscar®-winning screenplay, which zeroes in on Dave (Christopher), his eternally exasperated father (the marvelous Paul Dooley), and his understanding mother (Barbara Barrie in divine form); the result is a film that presents us with the Middle America of all our dreams.
[Show spoiler]...from everyone's favorite label - Twilight Time.

Release date: Early 2015. Source:

Terrific film! I first saw Breaking Away in a class in high school and it has stuck with me all these years later.

Awesome pic, loved it! As part of the extras I'd love to hear the father and son talking over the movie and possibly include discussion/clips of them being together again as father and son on Law and Order

Now this one is definitely worth the extra $ from Twilight Time.

I love the film, one of my top ten favorites, but literally get nauseous every time I read about a twilight time release. I wish they would just go away.

Yeah, me too...that way Olive or Kino can do the release, the transfer won't be nearly as good and we can save about 10 bucks. Or, no one will release them and we can save the entire 29.99!

Funny, I get the exact same feeling every time somebody makes this sort of comment on EVERY TT release thread. My optical nerves are in constant pain these days because of all of the eye rolling I've been doing.

Why wouldn't it be nearly as good? One might be able to raise legitimate questions about Echo Bridge or Mill Creek but Kino and Olive can slap files on a disc with the best of them.

Cool. This will make a great present to my dad, he was living in Bloomington when they shot the movie, and has always had a special fondness for it. It's a petty cool little movie, as I recall.

I haven't seen it in years but it's a very good movie. I always kick myself if I fail to include it on a list of favorite sports movies.

I was there for a few years prior, but ditto. Even watched the TV show spinoff (though it was shot somewhere else altogether). On my will buy obviously list.

I disagree - Kino and Olive have had their successes, but they've had plenty of misfires as well....I'd say they're both 50/50, whereas TT's success rate is considerably higher.

20th Century Fox does release catalog titles, so there is that option....

Happy to be able to get this film - just watched the DVD a few months back and liked it. A little before my time as I was nine when this came out but it does remind me of myself circa 1984-85 riding my bike all over the county wanting to be a professional rider .
