Tom Hanks to Star in Sci-Fi Film ‘Bios’ From ‘Game of Thrones’ Director (EXCLUSIVE)

Tom Hanks will star in “Bios,” the hot spec package making the rounds around town with “Game of Thrones” helmer Miguel Sapochnik directing.

Penned by Craig Luck and Ivor Powell, the story follows a robot that lives on a post-apocalyptic earth. Built to protect the life of his dying creator’s beloved dog, it learns about love, friendship, and the meaning of human life. Hanks will play the ailing creator.

Robert Zemeckis and Kevin Misher are producing through their ImageMovers banner.

The package started being shopped around earlier this month and Amblin is the likely landing spot though Legendary and Warner Bros. is still in the mix. Once picked up, the plan is to begin shooting the film in the first quarter of 2018 when Hanks’ schedule frees up.

Hanks can be seen next in Steven Spielberg’s “The Post” as former Washington Post editor-in-chief Ben Bradlee. The film will bow this December and is expected to be an award season contender, as is Hanks. He was recently seen in the STX thriller “The Circle.”

Sapochnik is best known for his work on the fan-favorite “Game of Thrones” episode “Battle of the Bastards,” which earned him an Emmy for best directing.

Hanks is represented by CAA and Sapochnik is repped by WME and Sloane Offer. ImageMovers is also repped by WME as well as Gang Tyre.

Great, another movie that won’t be getting a physical release.

Straight to streaming is seriously the kiss of death for those of us who may want to own a physical copy of the movie someday and none of the Apple exclusives have gotten physical releases so far.

Patience. Exclusives aren't forever. Apple license or greed will make a physical release happen one day.

I meant to say Apple License expired.

Streaming while decently popular (but still only 50% of revenue when calculated in any realistic way) has never reached 90% like the VHS rental days compared to owning.

With everything fractured, too many competing services, one day this film will be shopped to a save state. Only then will I see it.

Love Tom Hanks but not enough to support online only exclusivity.

Apple showed a tiny clip of this at their event today within the overall Apple TV+ ad. Hopefully a full trailer is coming soon.

Greyhound still hasn't, which really grinds my gears when you consider that movie's sound mix. Even Hanks himself bemoaned that the movie's visceral impact was blunted on Apple's platform.
