Although Cinderella Man was finished with a digital intermediate (at EFilm in Hollywood) and features some CG effects, the project offered many opportunities to “go back to basics.” For a one-shot segue from one Braddock opponent (John Henry Lewis) to another (Art Lasky), Totino established the transition in camera in a single move. “It was the three of us in the ring, and I was operating handheld. I love it when I can come up with a simple idea that works really well.

The film was processed at Deluxe Laboratories in Toronto, where color timer Diane Cappelletto worked closely with Totino on such special sequences as a black-and-white film of a Baer fight that the filmmakers wanted to sell as period footage. “I wanted to do it in camera, not in the DI or as an effects shot,” he says. “We shot it on Eastman Double-X 5222, force-developed it 11⁄2 stops, and then Diane did a series of interpositives and internegatives and did some force-developing on those. That gave us the look we wanted.”

Nice. And considering Disney has the rights internationally it's most likely a North American exclusive.

Was honestly expecting Parenthood instead but this works. Hopefully Disney's nice enough to give us Splash, Amazon and Warner give us 13 Lives and someone releases GTA on Blu-ray.

Always mega happy to see Universal releasing catalogue content so, yay! Though I must confess, this one was always a bit mehhh to me. It's... fine. But there are better boxing movies, better Ron Howard movies, better Russell Crowe movies, better Great Depression movies etc, so I seldom felt the urge to reach for the DVD on my shelf (which was the last time I owned it). But if it brings us a step closer to A Beautiful Mind them I welcome it with open arms

I love Cinderella Man

Yeah, it's predictable. No, it isn't as good as Raging Bull or Rocky, but it's still an awesome movie that largely gets elevated by the period and the performances of Crowe and PG. Crowe was just so good in these roles that you want to root for him even though you know where everything is going.
