Thumbs up LaCie d2 Blu-ray External Burner

Quote:
aCie is introducing a new external DVD burner that sports Blu-ray capabilities called the D2 Blu-ray Drive. The drive connects to your PC via either USB 2.0 or FireWire 400 and will write to both single layer 25GB Blu-ray discs as well as dual layer 50GB discs. The drive also supports writing to both CD’s and DVDs. Blu-ray burn speeds are: BD-R 2x and BD-RE 2x. All DVD types appear to burn at 8x with CD-R at 32x and CD-RW at 24x. LaCie also bundles Easy Media Creator 8.2 and CinePlayer 3.4 for Windows as well as Toast 7.1.1 Titanium for OS X. Availability seems to be mid November on reseller sites, but no mention of even the product is found on the LaCie site. I-O Data also makes a external Blu-ray drive with similar specs called the BRD-UM2/U.

This brings the total number of Blu-Ray drives to 12.

Default LaCie Blu-Ray Burner

Well, got my LaCie Blu-Ray burner and here's the report......first LaCie product I'm truly disappointed with.
1. Only one they had available directly from LaCie was refurbished. Against my better judgement, I bought it anyway. Nobody bothered mentioning that the refurbished units that come "with everything just like the new one" don't include the bundled Toast Titanium, which I understood was needed to burn BluRay video.
2. Support informed me that refurb means no Toast.....gotta go buy it seperately.
3. Purchased Toast Titanium, it DOES NOT burn Blu-Ray video, it only burns a data disk. Back to looking
4. Spent nearly $1400 upgrading my Adobe CS 1 to latest and best CS3 Master Collection after learning that the only software currently out there that truly supports both Blu-Ray video burning, as well as the LaCie player is the latest version of Encore.
5. New version of Encore in CS3 Master Collection upgrade arrived today, install went perfectly, Blu-Ray assembly of a test disk went great, did a test flight of it and all came back a-ok with some short 2-3 minute 1920x1080 HD video I'd shot a while ago.....clicked "build" and off she roared, processing, transcoding, rendering, Adobe-ing......then low and behold, as soon as it went to writing, "Error".

Really suprised at the response from support and the lack of plug-and-play on this high end piece of equipment. Submitted another support ticket, we'll see if it does any good this time. This shouldn't be this difficult!

And which Toast did you buy? I thought only Toast 9 can do BD video?
