Default 1st Gen. Sony SXRD?

I was at a local Best Buy looking at the Sony BDP-S1 when an employee walked up and asked if i had any questions. I asked if he had any Sony BD players and he said he had 2 left. He then asked me what TV I had. I told him 50" Sony SXRD (not sure of the model #). I told him that the speakers were on the side and then he said oh that is a 1st Gen model. He then said that it'll display 1080p but won't display 1080p through any input including HDMI. Is there any truth to what he told me?

Yup, it sure is.

Don't get the old TV's. Get the newest ones because now they all do accept native 1080p signals.

That TV can only accept a 1080i signal. But not to worry, those SXRD TVs have great deinterlacers, and you will be hard to see the difference.

Go for the newer ones. You can get them on sale at places like Sears and Best Buy no worries.

Best Buy has the 60 inch on line right now for $2500. I'm thinking about it myself.
