Default PS3 in B.F.E.

Can you connect the PS3 to the network with a sprint wireless card? My Buddy lives in the middle of nowhere and his only internet access is with a cell phone provider.

What part of Indiana does your buddy live in? He may be able to access online with his PS3 if it's a broadband card. Does he use it in a laptop? Can he get Comcast? If he can get Comcast cable then he get the package deal they have and use that instead.

He actually live just over the border in Illinois. He can't get cable where he lives. He uses the card through a laptop. Is there a way to plug the card into a router of some type?

He can set up his computer to "share" the internet connection through windows, which essentially makes it a 2-port router (one port is the Sprint PC-card, the other port is the network jack on his laptop). Then connect the laptop to the PS3 by one of these methods:
1) Wired ethernet switch or router plugged into the PS3 ethernet jack
2) Crossover cable (or maybe the PS3 or notebook has the auto-MDIX crossover feature? that would require just a plain-old ethernet cable)
3) Wireless router (assuming he's using a PS3 that has built-in WiFi - I know my 20 GB PS3 doesn't) - plug the ethernet jack from the notebook into the WAN port of the router and then configure the PS3 to connect via wireless

It will still require his laptop to be on & running, but at least he can use his existing setup (plus a router if he doesn't have one).

Thanks for the help. I'll try it this weekend. He could care less about getting it on line, but his son wants to play COD4 with my son and I.

I'm sure if he found the USB version of the wireless cards it would work.

Can the PS3 access the web through the usb port? I thought it would only work through the Ethernet port.

He doesn't even need a router. He can use the "ad hoc" mode (doesn't require a separate router) on the computer and PS3 to communicate.

If the PS3 won't let you connect via ad hoc, the computer, itself, can act as the router and access point. Personally, I don't see the point of making the computer act like a router in this case. Sprint's cellular network is pretty secure (it's not like getting service from a "run of the mill" ISP).

Do a search for access point sotware for PCs.

EDIT: BTW, use should use that for downloading and surfing the web only. Your ping times are going to suck @ss!

A lot of times that requires special drivers to make that work. I don't believe the PS3 has those special drivers in it's operating system. Therefore, it's unlikely, but I haven't tried it.

B.F.E stands for bum fu**** Egypt. Means in the middle of nowhere.

Sounds like he lives near where I used to live, Evansville IN.

This is a bit expensive, but something like this would work as well.
