Hello all, I'm a proud new blu ray owner, got a great deal and couldn't pass it up. Here is my question. My current TV resolution is only 720p. Is there any advantage to purchasing Blu Ray disks as it can only play at 720? Is there any difference at 720p between blu ray disks and standard disks? I'll eventually go up to 1080p, but just wanted to know if I'm wasting my money re-buying old classics if I can only watch at 720.
So confused. |

My space is limited so I currently go straight through the TV. Any suggestions for a system? I have a 5.1 system currently in a box, Kenwood, it was nice before I moved to this crackerbox (thank you CT, sure miss TX). 5.1 in my new diggs would be overkill.

It's all a question of personal motivation. If HD video is important to you if good sound matters then you should get a full HD TV and enjoy your movies in full HD if TV and video are just second hand entertainment then your 720p TV is enough and you don't need to replace your DVD's just get Blurays of new releases that meet your interest.

you will see the difference on a 720p trust me! i just compared the Transformers DVD and Blu-ray on my Sammy 27" 1080i/720p CRT just to prove it to my friend.

Well in reality, its not just picture quality, but audio wise. I mean, we know that Toshy are being unfair on not jumping the BD bandwagon by upconverting DVD's but can you really upconvert audio. I'm not an expert on tech, but I'm pretty sure that it would either be unable or rather hard. |

OP: The advantage is you pay US$5 more on average for a BD disc to give you better picture and audio quality. DVD can't ever catch up to that. So when you eventually replace the 720p HDTV you have now with 1080p later, you're all set.
