Can anyone help with my update for my PS3

Im not what you would call very computer savvy and I bought my PS3 used. I have WiFi very near mine but cant get it to connect because of the old settings in my PS3. It asks for all kind of crazy numbers I dont know where to find to input the right ones.

A friend suggested I back all my content up onto PS2 mem cards then wipe out the PS3 and start over and it will connect automatically. Will this work? If so how do I add all saved info to a mem card and then how do I wipe the PS3 clean to start up like new.

Go into the settings and select network settings. There's an automatic setup process that will set everything up for you without having to delete any of your data.

Most of the time, wireless networks are protected with a key so you'll probably need to type in the correct key before it'll connect. If your wireless network is unprotected, you should be able to just have it automatically connect. Are you saying you don't know what to do when you go the network settings of the PS3 and it's asking for various pieces of information?

Also, you might be able to go to the System Settings and choose restore to default settings option. That might get rid of the internet settings the other person had entered.

When I try that it tells me to press the AOSS button on my internet but I dont have that button so Im not sure what to do.

Never had that problem either using wired or wireless setup, automatic or not.

If you just want to upgrade the firmware, download it on your PC, transfer the firmware using a flashdrive and plug that to the PS3.
