Default "30 DAYS OF NIGHT." How Did You Like It?

I wanted to get reviews on the PQ, SQ, and Scaryness factors from 1 to 10 by the regular Joe site members themselves. (You!) (Not a professional reviewer.) I'm waiting for Amazon to deliver my copy...

PQ & AQ were good not the best I have seen / heard. The movie itself was very good.

I rented the sdvd as the BD version was all rented out and I have to say that I am VERY glad I just rented it. A big dissappointment of a movie for me. Would have been pissed had I bought it.

Had some very cool killings but as a movie, it sucked.

Very brainless... the lead 'vampire' was awful.

I watched it tonight.
First thing I noticed is that for most of the movie being in the dark, the low light scenes look very nice compared to many films. Virtually no noise to be found.
I thought the movie was cool. I'm a big fan of vampire films, and this one was different enough to distinguish itself from a lot of the cookie cutter fluff out there.
I would have liked more information on who these vamps are and where they came from, but I think I read that they are working on a second one (anyone?), and maybe they'll get their chance to expand on that then.

My mother's a confirmed vampire story and horror film addict. I rented this for her last week (I get these a little early because I work at Blockbuster) and all she could say was "It was silly". And that's coming from a person who loves anything automatically if there's a vampire involved, so take heed.

I thought it was a fantastic new approach to vampires. The PQ is amazing. I dont think it ever really dropped below 25 mbps. As for audio.... 2.1 from the TV as of now so idk. Definitely suspenseful and scary in some moments

PQ is great. I watched 30 Days on an old LG set that only can handle up to 1080i, and even with LG's crappy video processing, 30 Days manages to look really good. Because of the TV I watched it on, I did see artifacts and noise, so I can't say about much. Still, if it looks good on older TVs, it'd kick ass on new ones.

EDIT: I know saying "PQ is great" and "see[ing] artifacts and noise" is contradicting, but I'm just basing it off previous experience of BD movies on that TV set. That TV will always have artifacting with live action movies on BD, so I hope in that sense I'm not contradicting myself. Just to be sure, I'm watching it on a different TV right now, and PQ really is great (in 1080p). No artifacts so far!

SQ is excellent. The mix is one hell of a ride. The TrueHD track handles voices in high clarity, panning/directionality is realistic (though one part stood out that was off), and the music is well to set the pacing. LFE is enormous at times, but never overwhelms.

As for the movie itself... 30 Days is entertaining, but there were two things that kept it from being great: acting and the vampires' wardrobe. Acting is OK for the main from the human characters, but the vampires can be cheesy at times. Their clothing is also a bit of a problem, even to the storyline, but that's up to opinion. They dress better than the citizens of Barrow, which has become a bit of cliche for Hollywood vampires. Problems aside, 30 Days is a fun watch, and with the right equipment, you'd find you'll be pulled into the immersive soundscape and cold setting.

You'll have to tell us how it compares to Underworld. I will watch it this weekend and looking forward to it.

Amazon should have it on my doorstep in a couple days. I've been waiting for this title since announced. I like to hear others opinions about the story, PQ, and SQ. I enjoy the various opinions and observations from the members here.

I don't compare one move against another. Each is it's own entity. Even in re-makes. Each film stands or falls on it's own. Sooooo, can't wait to see 30 Days!!!

I'm a fan of vampire movies but this was just OK. The story was original so it had the potential to be a great movie but overall it fell short of my expectations.
