Default Amazon.ca blows

The Canadian dollar is at $1.02 US and preorders at Amazon.ca are still way more expensive.

Here's National Treasure at Amazon.com for $23.95 (us)
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0013527HU

and here it is at Amazon.ca for $31.49 (cdn)
http://www.amazon.ca/National-Treasu...4161234&sr=8-2

$31.49 for a PRE-ORDER!!! Bite me!!

It's not the fault of Amazon... the MSRP is always 10$ higher in Canada.

For example

Fox MSRP in the US are 39.99$US
Fox MSRP in Canada is 49.99$US

Are you telling me that when this movie is released...and on sale in ,..let's say ..Future Shop... that it's gonna be MORE than $32?!!

I guess I'm just gonna cross the border and buy all my BD's in the states.

this is because that 1.02 canadian to us 'exchange' rate fluxuates (sp?)...the us dollar is at a bit of a lull right now, but it will improve. that msrp difference from canada to us is there no matter what, no matter the exchange rate. thats how the world works often.

There has to be some way the Canadian companies can buy the lower priced US goods to sell. If we have the option to buy it as consumers, there is no way the companies do not. That would seem to put them at a huge competitive disadvantage.

I would think that if they were willing to pay in USD that they should be able to buy it at the US rate.

I have never worked in that type of industry though, but things are seriously messed if there isn't anything Canadian companies could do - as if there weren't they could easily just make the Canadian MSRP $100 and put all canadian companies out of business as we would all buy everything from the US

MSRP is Suggested Retail Price is it not. Does not mean that it has to be sold based on that price. I could be wrong as I am not in that business either.

Regardless, I just ordered/pre-ordered Cars and No Country for Old Men and it works out to $10 - $12 Dollars in saving to my door from .com .vs .ca

I will pay for Shipping and duty .vs 13% Sales tax at those lower prices any day.

Canadian Blu-ray owners appear to be paying more than their share a lot of times. Is it worth while for you guys to import from Amazon US?

Yes, VERY worth while to use .COM

.CA is really only there because of the government regulations on book stores -- If amazon wanted to come to Canada, they had to make the .ca store.

Buying from .com you save the following ways:
- Lower MSRP
- Strong CDN$
- No Duty (ships from Canadian warehouse)
- No GST
- No PST (for those unfortunate enough to have to pay this)

You do pay for shipping, but all that does is barely eat into the MSRP difference.

It's almost always cheaper from Amazon.com than buying locally, but not always cheaper than buying from somewhere else. It really depends on how much you order as shipping is 7.98 for the first Blu and 2.99 for each additonal one (I may be off a few cents).

For instance, during the last B2G1 at amazon I was interested in 3 titles. Crank (26.95), Blade Runner (27.95), and War (26.95). Total would have been $68.86 including shipping. No tax or duty, so $22.95 per title. Not bad and way better than buying locally, but I can get better prices on eBay usually.

However, if you wanted to preorder just Enchanted for example, you're looking at $31.93 USD for us once you add in shipping.

And to follow up on my previous post, I know that MSRP is what it's suggested to sell for in store, but that must have some sort of bearing on what price they sell it to the stores for. For instance, perhaps disney always gives it to stores for 50% of MSRP. This would result in a higher Canadian price still, unless the canadian stores can get a price based on the US MSRP.

Another thing, considering the majority of sales will happen within the first month, MSRP really needs to be based on current exchange rates. I don't mind paying a few dollars more (since I'd have to pay for shipping), but $10+tax is ridiculous. I mean, I saw superbad at bestbuy for $42.99 for crying out loud.

There isn't really any reason that I can think of that a store can't sell it to me for at least the same amount as me importing a single copy becuase they are going to be having multiple copies shipped to them which should save them money. It seems like I could buy Blus off on Amazon.com and mark them up a buck or five and still be charging less than local retailers who are getting them wholesale.

And to Canadians, I always like to mention DeepDiscount.com Their prices have gone up a bit lately, but I can still get some decent deals from them now and then since shipping is $5.95 per order regardless of how many items. You will be hit with duty on larger orders though, but if you can keep them down in size, they aren't too bad. Also, since things ship as they come it's a great place to make preorders since they will ship seperately (assuming the titles are released on different days). Just put a lot of pre-orders and add some out of stock titles to your order to really stretch that $5.95 shipping.
