Default Disney Platinum Editions: Blu Only Releases A Possibility?

I was just thinking ...i would not be surprised at all if disney decides to do separate releases of platinum titles on blu-ray only. as in although aladdin was just retired, they may release it specifically on blu-ray without an accompanied dvd release. i think to get blu-ray out there more of these titles need to become available. not to mention when blu-ray first started the disney commercials said lion king, aladdin, and beauty and the beast were ALL coming "soon" to blu-ray. disney is usually pretty good about not releasing false statements. do you think disney would consider this? or what if they did an animated blu-ray box set which included those three announced? and did they mention little mermaid in the commercials also? i can't remember

Coming Soon doesnt mean within a month it could be a year or 2. They made those announcements before they announced Sleeping Beauty would be the first. Im betting we'll get the same treatment DVD got. 2 a year with some special occassions of 3 a year with the 3rd being a minor release

I don't see this becoming a reality anytime soon. I waited years to get certain Disney titles on DVD, and I'm prepared to do the same with Blu. Two huge releases a year is all I need, and maybe two minor releases as well.

The only thing I could maybe see is the more recent minor disney releases getting a Blu without having to wait for them to get another DVD release - ie Aristocats and Sword in the Stone (which is due later this year but not getting a Blu release).

You cant really say Disney didnt care. They didnt anticipate Blu ray from when they started releasing DVDs.

I know exactly what's he's talking about. When DVDs first started pumping out, Disney was dead last to jump on that wagon. And the ones they did release were practically just VHS transfers on a DVD disc. It took them a long time to come around to the idea that VHS was dead. That's why I find it so ironic that they seem to be leading the BD pack with PQ and AQ. I guess multi-billion dollar corporations CAN learn from their mistakes.......

A blu only release would require a whole new marketing scheme for Disney. Currently all their releases are endlessly hawked on Disney Channel and Disney.com. A blu only release, targetted at an older audience, would require a whole new marketing scheme. I doubt Disney would do that.

I doubt it too. Some people dont have the money to go out and buy not only a 400 dollars player next year but a new TV too. I think Disney is smarter than that

Eh, what's the big deal with Wall E? It looks stupid. There are many people in here who mindlessly love Pixar.

As for Disney, three animated releases a year would be nice for Blu but they won't do that. Because these films are classics, they can make people wait and wait without interest fading away.

Agreed, generations have grown up on Disney. They won't rush, no need!
