Talking Should Pixar Studios Remake Classics?

I finally got around to watching Ratatouille, [I know, I'm old], the other night, and was completely amazed at how real the water looked when he was going down the sewer. How would you feel if Pixar Animation redid classic animation in the likes of Disney and throughout, instead of purchasing the same movie every year? e.g. the golden, platinum, 2-disc-buy-it-now-before-it-goes-back-in-the-disney-vault editions?

Suffice to say, it "may" not be deemed a classic anymore without the same animation, however, if the likes of same waters were to be applied to say, The Little Mermaid, then one could put the updated movie and the classic movie on the same Blu-ray disk.

As with the Platinum Editions, they always show the comparisons side by side in the DVD commercials, however, how much sharper could one "really" make it for a Blu-Platinum-ray edition?

Dispite the fact that Ferngully isn't Disney owned, I'd actually think it'd be rather cool to see that colorful sewer water (laughs) falling onto the leaves. I'm by no means bashing Disney, however, it's the same version, and there's like 25 versions for each film now. It's like The Land Before Time all over again.

2-Disc Blu-ray Diamond Edition: Lion King. I'd buy that.

I'd much rather Pixar focus on new stories for new films of their own, thanks.

pixar seems to overexagerate characteristics in humans (big eyes, big head, big chin, big hair, etc.) so disney movies that deal with humans mainly is a BIG, BIG NO!

However, if they did the job right I wouldn't mind seeing some pixar remakes of things like Fifo, Great Mouse Detective, etc. They should leave Lion King alone though, don't mess with a classic.

No, they should not remake classics. They should give us Finding Nemo and Toy Story on Blu-ray first.

Love Pixar, especially Cars.

No way on the face of the earth should Pixar ever touch the classics. Pixar may have had some great movies but if they are ever going to remake classics they need to be live action because that is where the money is at. Plus they have more creative freedom. With Pixar it's just animation once again and it will be the same story. Real people could bring real depth to the stories.

A computerized version of the Mona Lisa is not the Mona Lisa. Remaking films, especially animation, is not creating new art. The answer to the question is NO!

I would be surprised if there was significant market interest for this.

I think a fair analogy is "should [insert whoever you think is the best modern pop/rock band on the planet] re-record The Beatles White Album? We know have much better recording equipment and sound reproduction abilities.

There would be some interest, but it would never be perceived as comparable or equivalent.

Those films stand alone. They are timeless because of the characters, the stories, and because of the whole Disney mojo. Not because of the quality of the animation, which is pretty amazing itself for what it is.

NO Worst idea in the last 4 billion years that is why they are classics the frame by frame cell animaton is what makes those movies what they are. It would be like remaking the old warner loony toons it just would not be the same

its not like the classics would go away though. however, they could add a whole new level of realism by doing them in 3d.

i think SOME movies would really benefit from this. i would have a problem with them doing remakes of things like cinderella, beauty and the beast, sleeping beauty etc., but i could see something like robin hood being kind of cool

If Disney has proven anything time and again, it's that their version becomes the "real" version

How many people know how the Little Mermaid really ends?

Well, they couldn't really release a film like THAT.

Seriously, Pixar should make new movies. If they want to 'redo' anything, then redo colors/textures in their older stuff like Toy Story or A Bug's Life to make them fuller or more detailed. Even then, they wouldn't need to tweak much.

Um, I guess we're innocently trying to cash in on that idiot from the other thread--
In which it was already pointed out that one of the good things about having John Lasseter running Disney is that he'd be the LAST person on planet Earth to try it.

Please, FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO!!!!

There's a reason classic films are called CLASSICS. Why in the world would anyone want Pixar to start butchering them. I loved Ratatouille... and I'm looking forward to Wall-E... but Disney's Snow White IS Snow White... they're version of The Little Mermaid IS The Little Mermaid (and their ending now IS the accepted ending), etc. Having Pixar go in and have computers redo the work of exceptionally talented animators is a blasphemy.

They do some great work... let them stick to new story ideas -- and not ruin existing masterpieces.
