ok in janurary people said the 80gb is dead and in februrary it became official. now people are saying its not dead and it comes bundled with MGS4 and a dualshock 3. so is it dead or not?

it's being re-released with MGS4.

The 80GB regular is not being produced any longer.
There will be a MGS4 bundle later this year, but it will just come in this bundle.
There will also be a 120GB version soon... probably beginning of spring.

I would think it does. But who knows what Sony is up too. I would puchase if PS3 with a 120 gb and DS3 even if it didnt come with a game or movie.

Anyway, no the 80 GB is not dead, it's just being bundled differently. The 80 GB was never dead -- that was just a rumor because 1 major store was reported clearing their inventory for a new SKU -- which just so happens to be this new 80 GB bundle. IMO, bundling MGS4 with the console is genius.

Bundling MGS4 with the console is genius indeed. Just like when they built a Blu-ray drive into it.

I saw a 60GB in Wal-Mart the other day. I was really tempted to buy it, since its probably one of the last of its kind.

I have heard that the next 80gb model will come with mgs4 and ds3

Considering that it's absolutely all over the net, no big surprise that you 'have heard this'.

I don't see why anyone is surprised over the old SKU being abandoned; they had to bundle in the DS3 somehow.

Only thing which is dead is the 120 GB and the Slimline for now. The new bundle is sure to make a large surge in sales however June 12th is still 3.5 months away

Don't expect the 120 GB or Slimline for a while after the new 80 GB, as why would sony have more then 2 SKU's?
