3d or Lifelike from Blu-ray

Quick question - dont know if anyone can answer but i was in Best Buy and noticed their Blu ray display playing night at the museum. I must say their demo looks nothing like how my blu ray looks on my tv (sony rear proj. 720p 50in).

The picture on their 40 in lcd 1080p had a real 3d look to it, it liked it was an actual live play on the screen, like the actors could actually walk out of the tv.

On my tv the picture is sharp and clear but flat or 2d it has nothing like that effect.

My question - what is that effect and how do i get it? I know i will have to get a new TV but is it a special feature (1080p?, motion enhancement?)

it certainly adds to the wow factor of blu ray that i want...
