Default Will Blu-rays get release date pricing like DVDs did?

Anyone remember when DVDs were $15-17 at release date then went up to $20 the next week. Blu-rays dont seem to have consistent prices, I would love for retailers to give release date prices for Blu-ray in the near future.

If BD ever takes a majority of the market share, which I don't foresee happening in the near future.

Feels like that now. Except some blu-rays go to $30 the 2nd week.

It's been roughly the same price difference for quite a while now.

2D New Releases: $18-25
3D New Releases: $20-28

Yes but they're inconsistent, Walmart had most new release DVDs at $14.77 and Target at around $16. But Blu-rays have different pricing even when they're valued at the same list price. I would like to see stores stick to a standard and low price for new release.

But it seems like after a few months, prices for newer films drops a lot faster than they did on DVD.

You're really comparing apples to oranges though. Most new release DVD SKUs consist of a single disc while the majority of new release BD SKUs are 2-4 discs sets and then Disney even has some 5 disc sets. It's hard to have uniform pricing when virtually every BD consists of a different number of multiple discs.

Put it this way, it was like when they offered barebones DVDs for $15 and a 2 disc edition for $20. They offered different sets in different price points. But at least the prices seem to be consistent. Unlike some Blu-rays of the same list price value being sold at $20 and others around $22.

It will probably happen eventually. Although, I agree that it won't be anytime soon.

I see where you're coming from, but I still wouldn't count on that kind of difference with BD anytime soon. It also a good more expensive to manufacture BDs (especially BD-50s) when you include all of the additional licensing and what not. DVD-9s literally cost pennies to manufacture and license.

Walmart seems to be the worst when it comes to a release week sale. It seems like only high profile releases go on sale. I feel like bb and target offer the best sales on release week... I would def love to see more consistent sales across the board.

Difference in cost of media production [justified onto the consumer] and companies competition on price points. Don't expect it anytime soon on suggested RP though retailers might force it at some point with sale prices to try to push the items.

Best Buy almost always has Blurays for 18-22 release week, then it goes up 5 dollars, and Walmart recently has had Blurays for 17.96-20.

Same, and before that I know they had Expendables 2 for that price. To me Blurays are already at a consistent price at release.

This is very true, in fact at most stores around here, after a month or 2 the BD will usually be cheaper than the dvd of the same film! This makes me not want to jump on anything mass released and just wait for it hit $10 or less. I don't think I've missed any titles yet doing this. If a Twilight Time or Code Red release I just get it as they don't go on sale and will either sell out or go OOP quick, anything else can wait. I don't mind missing a slip cover for saving $10+! Opening week does seem to vary a bit, but no more than dvd ever did.
