I have both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. My general question is when will the movie industry provide movies that were made for 3D for the theaters start to produce them on Blu-ray? We currently have the technology with the big screen monitors and the quality video (1080P) to support a 3D movies. I know there are already a few 3D movies, however, all of the movies I've seen require specialized equipment and won't work with Hi Def (Digital).
Any idea's from anyone....or is it a pipe dream on my part? Cheers |

My Sony Bravia KDL52XBR4 does 120Hz, but I haven't seen any ports on the sides or back of this TV made for connecting 3D LCD shutter glasses. Perhaps if they're making these LCD glasses to connect via USB they might be able to connect through the DMeX service/expansion module port. I'm sure electronics companies could come up with some shutter glasses system via USB on a PS3 or Blu-ray player and have certain adjustment capabilities. The 3D thing would also only work on TVs capable of displaying refresh in multiples of 48fps. 120Hz doesn't do that. The RealD process in digital cinemas runs at 144Hz to triple flash each frame. Regarding the color 3D that uses clear circular polarized lenses in the glasses, you have to use projection on a silver screen for that to work. It won't work shown on regular TV monitors. Dolby3D is a totally different process that involves use of a spinning color wheel filter. The 3D glasses are fairly expensive. |

Thanks for your input. Seems that we have the technology...however, we don't have a way to connect the dot's. It would be cool though to have 3D version that could be displayed on the home HI DEF systems at a moderate cost of purchasing the required gear.

Mitsubishi is working on something 3D with bluray. I'm not sure what it is exactly, but let me find an article I read a year ago.
http://gizmodo.com/gadgets/bluray/mi...-3d-292940.php This wasn't the article I read, but I think this might be it. So it actually turns out, that its going to be a bluray player instead of some kind of add on. |

George Lucas has abandoned his project of converting Star Wars to 3D.
The big issue is this: the 2D to 3D technique doesn't work well. Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas only worked in 3D because all of the miniature photography had sharp, high depth of field. Just about everything in the frame was in sharp focus and easier to isolate using masking and extraction tools in digital imaging applications. The IMAX 3D segments in Superman Returns didn't look good because lots of the imagery was out of focus and very difficult to "lift" into 3D space. Add to that the problem that the original imagery was shot in mere 1080p HD video using Panavision Genesis cameras. Not enough detail. Star Wars would suffer from the same problems. Lucas would go to all kinds of very costly, labor intensive, pains-taking efforts. And then the end result wouldn't look very good. Certainly nowhere near as good as a show natively produced in 3D. Basically it's like this: if anyone has the desire to show their movie in 3D then they have to produce it natively in 3D from the very start. They have to film both right eye/left eye views if they're shooting a live action show. If it's animated they have to render right eye/left eye camera views. The notion of converting a 2D movie to 3D after the movie is finished is 100% retarded. |
