Default Help me convince my family that Blu is here to stay...

So, I already have the wife sold on Blu-Ray. She's about as excited about the format as I am. As long as I buy the movies she wants in blu, she doesn't gripe about my purchases

But I visited my folks at their house the other weekend and they don't seem convinced. My dad has always been somewhat of an early adopter, but he's stubborn as all hell. A good example of this was him having all widescreen plasmas, but absolutely refusing to purchase widescreen DVDs. He refuses to believe what is generally common sense a lot of times. But nonetheless, he's always been smart at what he does and he does appreciate technology.

He recently took down his old 480p plasmas and upgraded to some 1080p LCD displays. Said he was considering getting into Blu-Ray now that HD-DVD bit the dust. I told him it was a smart move, as the 1080p standard would be around for quite a few years, similar to 480i. He refused to believe me. He kept citing new technology rapidly replacing inferior technology. I agreed, noting that both OLEDs and Laser TVs are on the horizon. But I told him that both of these newer technologies would still use the 1080p standard for several years to come (Japan is usually the first to adopt a new broadcast standard, and I've read reports that theyre not planning on updating to 8kP until at least 2020 or something like that, and the US usually adopts 5 or 10 years after the fact).

Soooo..... keeping in mind that this is one of the most stubborn people you could ever possibly meet in your entire life (an ex-military machine shop owner with an anger management problem), is there anything you think I could say or do to convince him Blu is in fact here to stay? Knowing him, once he's convinced, he'd drop thousands on updated home theatre, making my monthly trips over there with the wife much more bearable.
