Default Paramount fails us once again. All hype no substance

After all the excitement generated about Paramount possibly announcing some bluray titles on March 4th it appears that excitement was all for nothing.

According Bill Hunt all Paramount did was announce the dvd version of There Will Be Blood.

The studio had originally set the DVD and HD-DVD versions for release on 4/8, but then the title was pulled from the Paramount Home Entertainment online press database. Just today, however, it's been added back into the system in the following configurations: single-disc widescreen DVD, 2-disc widescreen Collector's Edition DVD and 2-disc Collector's Edition "HD". Since the studio has already confirmed that today's HD-DVD releases (Things We Lost in the Fire, Into the Wild and Bee Movie) are its last, the new "HD" listing for There Will Be Blood can mean only one of two things: Either it's the studio's first newly announced Blu-ray (possible, but we think somewhat unlikely), or this is simply error - an HD-DVD title that hasn't yet been cleaned out of the database. When I tried contacting the studio this morning, per usual these past few weeks, I was unable to speak with anyone who could confirm anything either way. We'll keep trying, but in the meantime, you CAN at least expect the DVDs on 4/8. And according to what little detail was available on the press site, the 2-disc Collector's Edition DVD will include some 15 minutes worth of deleted scenes, at least 3 featurettes (The Story of Petroleum, There Will Be Blood - Pics, Research, Etc and Dailies Gone Wild), trailers and more. Here's the cover art for both DVD versions (the 2-disc version is on the left)...

It appears that Paramount and Universal are in no rush to jump on the Blu train.

And I continue to be in no rush to pay one red American cent to see any Uni/Para releases at the theater or at home until they do the right thing by blu owners.

I got enough to buy from the existing Blu studios this late winter/spring. Four next week. Two the week after that. Several in the months that follow. Plus, SD versions of Battlestar Galactica S3, Wild Wild West S4, 4400 S4.

If Paramount also wants my money, they're going to have to get in line.

Bummer. I was hoping for some announcements. I wonder if the dispute with Toshiba is settled yet? I also wonder how much (if any) of the fight over the monies owed has impacted advertising for Bee Movie on even standard DVD. I have not seen any ads (that come to minds) for it coming out next week.

This does not surprise me one bit. They obviously don't have their act together and were caught with their pants down. It's going to take them some time to figure their stuff out. Is a shame, they have some nice titles.

What publication indicated something might be announced today anyways? I don't think we will hear any announcements this month. It could be April or May before we hear anything.

I am in no rush to support scum like Paramount. Universal on the other hand would be a welcome addition.

This sucks I know theres alot of paper work and stuff to settle before they can switch but I thought they wanted to make money isin't that the point for companys to try and make money come on throw me a frekin bone here something. They could say something like we are going to be switching over to Blu and have releases starting with Blank and say every release after will be both Blu and DVD

Maybe they have to wait for the last check from Toshiba to clear. They've made millions for doing nothing. Why ruin a good thing?

According to Bill Hunt Paramount didn't announce anything, they just made a vague reference to an HD version of There Will Be Blood that could be a slip referring to a BD version or could be a mistaken reference to the now-cancelled HD DVD version.

So this is not the big announcement. I don't think it was ever official that there was going to be a big announcement, but if there is, it will be something other than this.
