I don't get this move by Lucas and Spielberg. Why release these films on dvd when they already did 4 years ago and not in high def. The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is right around the corner. take that Lucas and Spielberg ![]() Last edited by Filmmaker85; 03-03-2008 at 06:36 PM. |

Especially if they do the single Indy 4 or Box Set of all 4 films strategy that has worked well with other movie series.

I don't think that's a threat at all. I also don't think it's something they'd worry about. If it were to erode the DVD, it would only be good news for Blu Ray which is what studios want anyway.

C'mon, is anyone REALLY shocked by this? It will happen, but if you're trying to promote a big flick, you always release some mind of tie-in with the new film's release. DVD is cheap and easy to produce these days. DVD also still dwarfs Blu sales so this makes sense. Besides, Indy will come out this fall on Blu, and if they do a box we'll get the whole enchillada instead of double dipping. I'm a sucker, so I will be buying this new DVD collection. I actually considered just giving Lucas my pin number or mailing him my wallet because I buy this stuff like a chump everytime Lucasfilm dips into the vaults. It'll be fine, we will get the big titles now, but believe me, you want the delay. Look at Cloverfield. With the talks of shedding Special Features just to meet the release date, rather than release a completed product at a later date, I would hate to see Indy do the same. Of course like I said, I'm a sucker and I would have still whipped out the cash if we had gotten some rushed Blu release, but you my friends, can still be saved.

Shocked? No. Disappointed? YES. They want Buzz, release them on blu-ray as well. I already have the sd-dvd box of this and will not be double dipping until its released on blu-ray. I don't think its a matter of special features not being able to port them to blu-ray either. They had plenty of time to work on these special edition releases. Its just pure marketing and double dipping. |

Of course it's marketing. I actually would have liked to see it sooner, but would much rather get all four in a set. As for having all kinds of time...they haven't been exclusive very long. I'd rather see it done right, like the original DVD release. Now if you wanna make a big BLU splash, you get the four flicks together in a set they've spent a few more months tweaking and adding content to. You want average customer support? Give them features man! Of course few people actually watch every special feature, but they like having the option. Need more proof? Look at all of the all you can eat specials, bigger and bigger mouth wrecking hamburger specials, SUVs that drive in the city, giant pick-up trucks that never have anything bigger than an average size dog in the back, etc etc. I really don't want a rush job like so many of the early WB catalog titles (a lot are pretty darn grainy man) for such a high end movie series with giant cross appeal. If Indy is the kind of title that gets more of the regular shopper into the Blu game it's important to wow 'em. Screw that, I want the studios to wow ME! That is the whole reason why Spielberg wouldn't allow releases on HD DVD. Quality. I'll trade a little more time for hopefully a lot better quality.

I think in general, studios will have a difficult time double dipping on sd-dvds because of blu-ray. The people that will buy a "special edition" or a re-release are those nuts like myself who is a huge fan of the movie. The Indiana Box set wasn't barebones by any means. We the nuts know there is something better than sd-dvd so no matter what kind of extras they put out, its just not worth a buy.

I think of it the same way star wars released the SE set on VHS while dvd was being picked up
I still have out hope that we'll see them released with KotCS on Blu this holiday season Being a big new release I don't see how they'd hold off on releasing it on blu...and I can think of no better time to release the others than when the new one comes out |

Blu ray owners are the vast minorities still. Double dipping with SD is standard practice. Perhaps it mean the Blus don't bite when these rereleases are offered, but most movie buyers aren't effected by the "something better". The something better is the rerelease and not the hope to one day buy it on a hi-def format. I literally saw a guy try to buy a Blu disc the other day (young guy, under 30, and smart enough to button his own shirt) to play on his dvd player. How this guy and his buddy didn't realize the Blu Ray player was a requirement of the format and not a suggestion blew my mind. The fact that my neighbors didn't realize HD and Blu players were backwards compatible is also kind of an eye opener. Average guy is not concerned with "holding off until it comes out on Blu Ray". Fact is, this rerelease will make a fortune. Just my 2 cents. Or $.02

I would hope that Speilberg and/or Lucas would be involved in production of the Blu-Ray versions. Since they are probably both involved in making #4, I suspect neither has time to oversee a Blu-ray version of the first three.
I just hope that no-one leaves Lucas alone when making the Blu-ray versions or we may see three movies we have never seen before. ![]() |

I certainly would not buy a DVD if I had reasonable belief that a BD was coming down the road. So, if you consider the overall small size of the BD-buying population and then throw out the those like me that have no interest in DVD at all unless I am absolutely sure it is the only option for the film, how much could a BD really erode DVD sales? |

I really wish that dvd sales figures by title were published. I wonder how many 30th Anni CEOTK was sold on sd-dvd vs blu-ray. |

We all just need to be strong and NOT buy the DVD releases and wait for the Blu-Ray versions. Otherwise, we are just playing right into their hands......
