Default BD Reviews

Having just obtained a player and seen my first movie (Aeon Flux) I am blown away by the quality. Wow!!!! Sooo worth the wait to get into Blu-ray.

Also got The Italian Job, Swordfish and Tomb Raider in the hope they were equally as impressive when get to view them over the next few days.

Have spent the last hour or so sifting thru the various reviews in the Forum and wondered if there was an easier way to go direct to a review of a particular Title? Have read that Fifth Element is not much better than the DVD so keen not to spend the dollars on titles that won't cut it ( Hope I havn't already?)

Have tried the advanced search but must be missing something.

Any suggestions?? Cheers.

Well in another forum I went, there would be a thread called something like "The Ultraviolet review thread" or similar, and then there was a gerneral info sticky thread that had a list of links of all the review threads, plus a list other info-thread links (Like "Why do I get black bars on my TV when watching STAR WARS?" or "How do I get an avatar" etc ) It was easy cus the forum was dedicated to one single studio "Brand" and it's output was limited to a few big blockbusters movies a year so was easier to track than the output of all 7 BD main studios + smaller companies but we could try. (I'll get back to you on that)

Right now you could "Search thread titles only" on the Search (there's an option for that on the seach menu tab) while narrowing the search for only the Blu-ray movies forum. So if you were looking for reviews of "Diamonds Are Forever" you could see if there was such a thread already posted or any thread about that title with info about it.

Well for now if you want to give us your humble thoughts on AeonFlux and you haven't found a thread on it, start one on the Blu-ray Movies Forum, And call it AeonFlux review thread or something. Worst that can happen, there's another one, and someone will point it out and/or Moderator will merge it to the other. If we ever get the 10,000 movie reviews/link list going we can make the titles uniform too.

As for review formating, copy from the best and add your touch!

Don't forget to emphasise PQ, SQ, and features because we like to know about that a little more than about personal opinion of of Mel Gibson rampages or something or the plot of Jaws (It's a movie, about a shark ) tho if you're Roger Ebert or equivalent, a complete detailed movie review is fine too

People have said The Fifth Element was barely better than DVD, but I say that's bull. I saw it at Best Buy on a 65" 1080p Panasonic plasma (on the Panasonic BD player) and I was very satisfied with the PQ. There was dirt on the print but the clarity was great! I picked up a copy right after that.

I said so myself a few months ago (that it looked good, not horrible) (I think it was in the Dinosaur thread). Since it's a transfer from a print, it probably gives you a more or less accurate despiction of what you get from a well used print on a theater.

Thanks for the tips! Must admit went mad in the weekend and now have a collection of 11!! Don't think I could look at another DVD again - it's probably been said before but the jump in both image and sound quality in BD versus DVD is the same leap forward I remember going from video to DVD.

Came accross a bit in a magazine saying Casino Royale is eta March 07 - don't think I need ever go to the movies again at this rate.

Will add some comments to reviews etc once have had a look at my new purchases...

In heaven!!

Like yourself, I went a little crazy and in about the first week or so of buying my BD player I also bought 45 Blu-ray movies. Some are not much better then 1080i upconverts (older movies), but most are a great improvement. Enjoy your movies.

You should do buy.com with Google checkout. Buy 2 at a time and save $20 off every order. Save some bucks.

I dunno but if people keep buyinmg their discs at Amazon it is going to ruin the AVS people's fun with the Amazon rankings... wouldn't that be a shame.

Can you say 70". The problem is, my Sony XBR(KDF-70XBR950) is a few years old so it only does 1080i . Duh!
