Just let the Xbox die. Good news for people who do like them though.

I'd buy it. I really like the idea of having a movie player in my game console to eliminate clutter. Plus, there's a ton of XBLA games that me or the kids play regularly.

I knew that it was only a matter of time. But, the thing that intrigues me most is that the article references the possibility that they could be looking to have a BD drive integrated into the system... thus creating another SKU. This also begs the question about whether MS will start releasing gaming software on BD discs in the future, thus leaving all previous systems obsolete without the ability to use BD games on their current DVD drives OR any BD peripheral that is released along side the system's hypothetical newest big brother.

The way I see it, it's a complete no win situation for Microsoft... regardless of the decision they make.

#1. Say no to BD technology: They severely limit their capabilities to compete on a next generation level as the PS3 matures and starts to be fully harnessed in the coming year.

#2. Say yes to a peripheral BD drive: Turns the Xbox360 into a very pricey comparison to the value inherent in the PS3 when consumers are looking at an initial system purchase. AND, the option for 'Elite' owners now becomes available to help support Sony's hardware division. Not the greatest business model concept for Miscrosoft at this point in the game.

#3. Say yes to an integrated BD drive: Turns the hoards of current Xbox360 owners into an angry mob for feeling like their hard earned money has once again been usurped as the 'latest and greatest' of their supported technology once again proves to have a potential problematic conflict with its futureproof longevity (HDD installation on upcoming titles, lack of HDMI prior to 'Elite' model, limited DVD disc space, proprietary HDD upgrade hardware, etc).

Should be interesting to see what happens... or, for that matter, what doesn't happen.

Most likely to be honest this is something that will not come into play until the next Xbox is released.
360 is already running into problems with space for content on games and it would be the logical next step to go blu on the next version of the system.

I have no problem with a Blu-ray drive being released or the Xbox360. I love my PS3, and if other idiots want to spend considerably more to get an XBox 360 + an external Blu-ray drive, then good for them. As long as it promotes Blu-ray, it's all good by me.

If there are currently 17 million X-box360 users out there and only 10% bought a blu-ray add-on, thats 1.7 million blu-ray movie buyers Sony can add to their blu-ray figures.
