Default HD Radio

Has anyone tried this? My favorite local station now broadcasts in high-def, but haven't heard hd radio yet. Is it really a big improvement?

if so, I may consider getting one so I can listen at work.

"hd radio" has got to be one of the biggest usage abuse of a commonly understood germane term, today. There is nothing "hd" about it. It is simply digital lossy compressed audio sent over a radio wave- not that far removed than your typical low bitrate mp3 recording. It doesn't even surpass plain jane pcm on a cd on a technical level- how could it possibly be even remotely "hd"?

It's good, but still very limited. There's only several different stations that broadcast in it. Basically, it's the same quality as satellite radio and it's regular radio's weapon against satellite radio. HD radio is growing though so look for it to get bigger. In fact, this technology was available 10 years ago before sat radio, but radio stations didn't want to invest in it. If they had invested in it, then Sat radio probably wouldn't have existed or at least wouldn't have so much success as they did
