Default BD-Live

anyone know if any of the software players are up to speed on bd-live yet?

I bought Walk Hard to check it out, but don't think the programs are up to it. This feature not available with your bluray player. or some crap

- PowerDVD 7.3 is not 2.0 yet, not sure if they will offer the upgrade after 8 came out
- PowerDVD 8 will probably be 2.0 capable
- Arcsoft doesn't even do BD+ afaik and i haven't heard of 2.0
- WinDVD, don't know anything about that software tbh

My best bet would be PowerDVD 8 in the near future.

Thus far, only the PS3 is BD-Live ready. None of the existing BD players will be upgradable to BD-LIVE. My comment only applies to standalone players and the PS3.

Just came across this blog confirming PowerDVD 8 will indeed be BD-Live / 2.0 in a few weeks:

well WinDVD isn't 2.0

Screw PowerDVD, it won't even play the movie as is right now for me, no way will I pay 60 bucks to upgrade it, at least WinDVD plays the movie and tells me it can't do the BDLive

I'll wait for WinDVD to sort it out

A side question.... Why do people from the PS3 camp always feel the need to post a comment about the PS3 in the PCS drives media and software section...
if I had a PS3, I would post it in the PS3 section....

PC games reign supreme over console... or I would have a console...

I wonder about the same thing. It's like - now that the "war" is over, a new one is raging. This one is to the effect - if you're not a PS3 owner or fan - you really don't like Blu-ray, or you really don't have Blu until you have a PS3. I agree with you that PC games reign supreme over console games - I also believe that besides for the PS3 the most future proof BD players are HTPC's.

its all about fanboys...

<rant>
List of annoying fanboys:
Apple = Seriously who cares? Its already a known fact that quality has dropped on Apple computer hardware, stop pretending and join the ranks of the rest of the world, stop picking on your competitors and spend more money making better products (not that they are horrible, but everything could use improvement)

Xbox 360 = Stop gloating about online play, if you could play me in the game while I'm on my PC, you would be crying... Nothing is like the reaction time of a keyboard and mouse. Also, the system is loud, and NOT a very good media center extender, so stop buying 6 of them so you can put one in every room... waste of money!

PS3 = Who cares if your the first to get bluray features, or if every movie works... Doesn't mean I want a humongous shiny eyesore sitting next to my bedroom tv... I like low profile, compact units. Bring me a ps3 the size of the ps2 slim and we'll talk.

As far as consoles go, I have more fun playing the Wii than I have playing the x360 or the ps3... Why because of the Virtual Console...

Sorry went off on a tangent, just had to get it off my chest
</rant>

PS3... Hmmm...
My Blu-ray machine can burn BDs.
Can a PS3 burn BDs?

*WHEN* the software gets updated(like Bonus View - Profile 1.1 was), I'm fairly certain that my BD machine will be able to do 2.0.

Not that I will likely ever use it, but I do have ethernet on this thing.

Don't trip maxmcleod. *WE* have the better machines.

I kinda like having choices...

not tripping, just getting it out there

I agree choices rule, and we have plenty of them
HTPCs will not die as long as people still want them
I for one, will never trade my HTPC for anything...

Default Power DVD

I have the latest version of Power DVD on my PC and the BD Live features work for Saw IV. I am able to log on and see the director's MoLog. I tried to access the BD Live features on The 6th Day and just got a black screen, however. The software installed an update first...maybe I needed to restart. I'll have to test more BD Live discs.
