Default FUD Posting

At the moment there seems to be a great interest in FUD. By re-posting it here you are actually, giving them another site to push their ideas, one they could not reach by themselves. Notice what the companies like Sony etc are doing about (publicly at least) nothing. Occasionally they have to respond like Samsung etc, but it's only occasionally as even the rebuttal gets distorted and twisted.

The best plan of attack is ignore it and if it offends you don't go to certain sites where you guaranteed to find it. Wait long enough and it WILL go away. Although you are meaning to point out the stupidity of the FUD you are unwittingly doing the opposite and spreading it for them.

Never argue with an idiot, they drag you down to their level then beat you with experience

Fear Uncertainty Doubt. A sales technique used to bully or confuse the "victim" into a purchase. Has been used to good effect by a few well know "computer type" companies.

It has effectively mutated into deliberate misinformation to give the wrong impression. "FUD" caused this response (note this post is NOT a FUD post) https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=4025 but is a good example of what FUD does.
If you were all Aussie another word would be used (male cow manure - someone will complain if I use the word).
Example "Blu Ray Killed JFK according to industry sources" is FUD - I just made it up, but send it around enough and it will look real. Samsung announced they were not making a hybrid player, after a lot of noise about this. This was then turned into Samsung cancels hybrid player (not what they said at all) There is an interesting war going on. One side is firing FUD at a very large steam roller, that's about to run over them. Over the last week there have been a number of examples posted. There are a "few well known identities" around that have been making these silly, false, outrageous and at times offensive and insulting announcements. There are others through interesting conflicts of interest doing the same. Some site are old masters at it, trust me you will know if you stumble across them. By re-posting and adding look what these twits (I'm being polite) are now saying, just keeps moving it around. It can be more subtle as do a Google search and it's possible to end up with Blu-Ray.com as the host and the first 3 lines. I know do a Google on search on a combination of words and a post I placed here (not FUD) comes to the top of the list. For many if were to read all these "headlines even from apparently pro blu ray sites" you may draw another conclusion. I actually managed to get Google search on one of the posts here (claiming the opposite of what the poster intended here) albeit this was a deliberate attempt and a normal search wouldn't come up with it, keep posting the stuff and it not only jams the forum, but may really help them move their (male cow manure) around.

We just gotta make sure that those HD-DVD FUD-ers won't find their way here. This is our haven, our bastion.

Mods gotta screen them carefully, be biased if needs be, the site says blu-ray.com after all

True, there is no need to spread the FUD here, but you do have to consider that propaganda/FUD works. Just look at all of the A1 owners that are praising what a wonderful player it was comparied to their new A2 that just replaced it... I would say that is close to brainwashing...

I would say that it is best to confront it where it is sourced if you are so inclined and can do it skillfully.

Case in point is the A1. By all means of rating a consumer product, if I were Toshiba I would hang my head in shame for pawning that mess off on the unsuspecting public. But look at the praise and glory that is heaped on it, all due to skillful propaganda.

If Sony had put out a product like that, the villagers would be storming the gates with pitchforks and lighted torches demanding a class action lawsuit...

I just cannot believe the irony of someone criticising blu-ray for being shoddy and then siding with MS and Toshiba.

It's insanity to me.

it reminds me of all the B.S. i used to hear about plasma tv's, when i worked in hometheatre from customers:

"I heard they die out after a year"

"I heard they burn in after 20 minutes"

"I heard they have bad PQ"

"I heard the gas leaks out and can cause cancer"

"you can recharge the gas right?" <--lol my favorite

The LCD backers spread all kinds of Fud and misinformation out there so that their technology of choice would reign supreme...it only slowed down what couldn't be stopped...just like this "Blu" freight train thats commin.

Sony did effectively, with some of the early BD titles. And they were skewered (rightly so) for those. But at least The Fifth Element was an improvement over existing versions. Just not enough of one. Nobody would consider the Toshiba deck an improvement over anything, except maybe DVD upconversion.

And the cost of replacing The Fifth Element with the future new release (one is being prepared according to the BD insider paidgeek) is $25. Nothing in comparison to replacing a player.

How many times have we already seen "Replace your A1 with an A2. It's only $499".

LOL!

Yea, I love that one... Everyone expects to replace a 1G product when a really better unit is released, but 6 months ??? They have got to be kidding...
