Thumbs up Tx-sr605s

this is my first post soo i may be sounding like a total idiot but please bare with me.

im looking into getting my first home theater ive been doing alot of research and came up with either getting the Onkyo HT-SR800 or....getting the TX-SR605s7.1 with SKS-Ht5407.1. anyone know which would be a better choice....or have any other suggestions and which other home theaters would be better combo.i dont have a budget(well under around 800$).

i havee 32inch LG 32LC7D with my beloved ps3 and xbox 360 hooked up to it.

thanks in advance

Plus I believe it comes with a 5 disc DVD changer and the Onkyo iPod dock. You could sell these if not needed to recoup some of your cash... probably get like $100 or so for them.

Question

the sp908 on amazon is 792$ and HT540 and SR6055 are 654$ and the SP908 comes with the 6055 receiver..and i dont really need the 5 disc dvd player of the ipod dock....so its almost 150$ cheaper. So are they speakers and sub that come with the sp908 that much better ??

IIRC, your getting 30-50 watts (rms) more power on the sub, as well as the aforementioned DVD player and ipod dock. The speakers that come with the 908 are from the sks-750 kit if you want to compare.

I remember making a mental note that the 540 had better power handling and owuld have been my choice... Not that that means much.

Wow, the SP908 jumped $30 last time I checked it, which was last week. Is there a sudden demand for this? I'm sure with some patience and looking you could get it for about $750 or less.

I have the Onkyo 605. I ran the Audyssey set-up a couple of times and wasn't happy with the side and back channel volume. I finally started adjusting the volumes of different speakers manually (see page 73 of the Onkyo manual) and I really cranked my rear speakers until they had the presence I wanted.

Question Sp908

I'm looking at revamping my audio system with Onkyo SP908. Either that or I'm just going to get the 750 speaker system and the 605 reciever. I do know that the SF908 has both of those and a DVD play, but I don't really need the player. Is there anything else in the SF908 package that would make it worth getting it over getting the speakers and the reciever separately?

evereything is working great with my 605 but one question, i have my HD Direct TV box hooked up to the receiver and when i watch a show i use the PLIIx Movie listening mode and it uses all 7 speakers but when i watch a blu ray disc on my ps3 it switches to only 2 listening choices Direct and Multich and that only uses 5 speakers. but its only blu ray discs, i play standard dvds in PLIIx Movie on my ps3 with 7 speakers....is this normal or is my ps3 blu ray not configured right?

Not all Blu-Ray disks come with 7.1 audio, as a matter of fact there are very few that take advantage of all 7 speakers. Most are 5.1 still, even with the lossless. The PS3 also does not do DTS Master HD (Yet, supposedly it is coming with a new Firmware update along with the Profile 2.0)
