Default Should Public Library carry Blu-ray Disc?

Today I went to Public Library and checkout 2001: Odyssey Space, Gone Baby Gone, and The Departed on DVD. They also have The Simpson and The Game Plan. My question is, should Public Library carry Blu-Ray Disc? I have 2 days to return it back and pick another 3 as a max. They really have good selection and hopefully they'll add more title releases. Fingercrossed!

My library still uses computers from the early 90s. I'd be surprised if they know what DVD is.

I wished my library had movies.

I think that libraries should carry educational BD's; not movies.

The local libraries here carry a large number of VHS tapes and DVDs. I doubt they carry Blu-ray.

why is it a matter of should or shouldn't? cost will be the only reason we won't see them in a library for a long while

Educational blu-rays. No point in my taxes going up so we can deliver "Booty Call" on Blu-ray to cheapos who want to watch it for free. Indeed, some of the movies that the library buys....

Planet Earth on Blu would be one good choice. While things like Die Hard are outstanding movies, they should not be bought with taxpayer money just so the cheapos can watch them.

Don't get me started on the "if you can afford a blu-ray PLAYER, you can afford to rent a couple blu-rays"

I couldn't agree more. It's amazing how much money we (taxpayers) throw away because Joe Free walks out with DVDs, and they're never returned. Joe Free subsequently sells them for $5 on the street to some other drain on society...

[\end rant]

Library movies are donations. Period. If you start seeing blu-ray donations, kiss the format goodbye. Now, the local library just might be a good place to rent HD DVD movies.

idk, but to me a library means books..and possibly educational video. not blockbuster movies. that belongs to a rental store.

Most libraries are RIDICULOUSLY slow to adopt new technology because 90% of them are run on shoestring budgets. Now, maybe if they charged 5 bucks a day for overdue books instead of 5 cents..... But don't ever count on it.

Maybe in your library. Ours hasa purchasing budget for movies just like books, as do every library I've ever heard of

Like with DVD, expect it to be a long long slow slog, and for things like Planet Earth to show up long before spider-man

Many public libraries have budgets for purchasing videos. With Blu-ray the standard, then YES!

(What do you want at public libraries? DVD? HD DVD? VHS?)

And to be honest with you, I would be extremely happy about that. With libraries, information comes first.... entertainment, second.
