Default Curious? I wanna know!

Hi,

I m planning to buy a laptop with the latest config. (DVD bla bla). My query is: With Blu-ray ariving on the scene, should I wait longer OR is there a way where even if I buy the latest tp-of-the-line laptop today, I wud still be able to use it after say 12months, by which time, Blu-ray wud'v becom more common n cheaper?

Thnks.

I would buy your laptop now and wait about a year or so and upgrade to a BD enabled one. The current BD enabled laptops are quite expensive and the BD media is up there too.

HAHA ya, expensive is right. $4000 CAD for my Sony VAIO! (Top of the line, VGN-AR290G)

Hi Proven Flipper,

Thnx for ur post!
However, I wanted to know sth else too...talking abt 'upgrade to a BD enabled one' sounds simple but what happens to my DVD-enabled lptp? That will surely be outdated:-((...thats a max shelf-life of say 6-12 months...oops!

Thnx

Get yourself a shiney new Dell XPS with a BD drive!

If you're being dragged down by a whole lot of useless cash!

If you're desperate for a laptop, you'll have to skip BD until you upgrade in 3 years (about how long PCs last these days in terms of spec). By then BD drives should be a common option from a fair few manufacturers.

Otherwise, wait a year and see what's on the market.

IMO, the BD drives are too slow to actually be worth the purchase...

I'd go with a fast DVD burner, and later upgrade the drive if possible.
