Default Blu-ray cases too small..

Hi,

Why did they decide to make the cases smaller so they don't fit my DVD shelving system? :-(

(there are worse problems in the world of course)

So consumers don't get BDs confused with DVDs.

Attracts the consumer. People want "smaller" these days. ipod nano, macbook air, cars, phones. And I think that the boxes actually cause alot of blind buys. The design of the box always attracts me to buy movies I havent seen dont ask me why

It gave me pause for a bit also. But I've grown to love them.

Because they can fit more on a shelf that way

Big box stores don't care about # of units, just square footage, and to differentiate from the DVDs

Default And they sell more shelving systems now too!

it was sort of a rhetorical question of course....

I still get out my laser discs, just to admire the beautiful, big, cover art!

I get what you're saying, I was talking about the bolded part of the quote, not the entire quote.

Personally, anything slimmer and the spines would be too small.

The same reason they made DVD cases larger than CD jewel cases.

I'm so glad they came up with a space-saving case for HDM. Plus I like the feel of the rounded corners. Another unexpected benefit: The rounded corners don't crease the cover insert so sharply so it's easier to adjust the placement of the cover art if it's misaligned. It bugs me to see misaligned spine graphics on my shelf.

I've got a resizable DVD shelving system, so it's not a problem they are smaller, just means adding in another shelf and having even more space for the BDs.

Well now, size really does matter after all. But I guess in this 'case', the bigger one did not get the upper hand this time around. My space is limited, so the smaller case is a real plus. Perhaps in the future, when we have 4K or some other UHDTV format, it can come on an 8cm HVD disk instead on todays 12cm one. It would be small enouf to make my movie collection practicality disappear, something even she would love.

They hold the disks and do not take up unneeded space, seems perfect to me
