Default New to this game.

I have recently got a PS3 so I can view movies on my HDTV LCD and have a couple of questions.

1) I don't understand how a previously released move on DVD would then be released on BD. Does the film source have plenty of detail to put on BD or do they create the extra information for BD. I would like to know if I should replace my existing DVD collection with BD or just purchase a select choice on BD?

2) What BD movies would you recommend or reference BD that would show off the technology at at its best?

3) When BD is recorded is it in a specific resolution and then upscaled? or is it true native 1080p?

My LCD is a Samsung LNS4696D 1080p and love it, except I haven't seen it really perform without a good source. I don't think that my PS3 or XBOX360 are good sources when it comes to games, but I am hoping that BD movies will make it shine.

Sorry for the really noobish questions as I am just curiuos of what people are currently experiencing.
