Default Manhattan?!

Its almost always in every sci-fi movie, Manhattan is the 1st city to face any storm, 1st to be struck by aliens or attacked by terrorists, why ?????
is it coincidence, prophecy, or what exactly ?
thanx in advance

Largest city in the US, and located on the Eastern seaboard. Chicago would be a terrible first city to attack in the middle.

New movie "It Came from Lake Erie!!"

(Yes, Lake Erie does NOT border Chicago, but it is still nastier than Michigan)

hehe

NYC is the greatest city in the USA.

Even if native New Yorkers are pushy, rude and aggressive, when you make friends with a New Yorker, you've made a friend for life.

My family moved here when I was just 5 years old. There is no place like it, perhaps thankfully so.

Still, I love NY - even if it is a target. Even Godzilla ran amok here.

But I love Long Island more.

Manhattan isn't a city. It's a borough.

And it's always attacked first because NYC is considered by many to be the "capital of the world."

Just remember: you might <3 NYC, but NYC doesn't always <3 you back.

while NYC is a major player in the city of the world, i wouldn't consider it the capital of the world. Financial capital of the world yes, not capital of the world. London, Paris, Tokyo, and Hong Kong are just as big if not bigger in certain aspects. fyi....i've been to all of them so i know, i didn't just read about it in some book or watch it on the news.

It's iconic. It's probably the only city in the world that has several iconic structures/areas instead of just one or 2. Such as the Statue of Liberty, Empire State Building, World Trade Center (before and after 9/11), Times Square, etc.
It is also the most mixed cultural city in the world.

Any half-respecting alien or monster knows they need to take out the Statue of Liberty before any military or government centres - that's obvious, isn't it?

Just because you've been in all of those cities doesn't make you all knowing and right. It doesn't matter how big the city is, NYC is a symbol in this world and it's been called the capitol of the world on many many occasions, while it's not official of course, it's still the most famous one in the world.

I'm from Levittown on Long Island, and I really couldn't agree with you more. My wife (Canadian) never liked New Yorkers that much (thanks to her conservative family). However, now that she's a part of the family, she's seen what we're all about. We, as New Yorkers, are just very direct. You always know where you stand with us. And, like nycomet said, we're a friend for life...
