Realistically you should save up and get a stronger dedicated Pre/Pro. One that has an Audyssey XT or XT32. I don't believe, I only skimmed the specs on the Emo Pre/Pro, it has an auto calibration outside its Emo-Q. There are other reasons to not get that particular one. I don't believe it had an upscaler either, doubtful you truly need one, but they might be nice to have on retainer.

In short it might be best to find other goodies to spend the money on.

Your Bluray collection shows "0." Use the $700 and buy 45 blu's. Without them, the emo is useless.

Before you decide to buy the UMC-1, make sure you are aware of the issues it has. Check the Emotiva thread here, at AVS and at EmoLounge. You could end up to be one of the lucky ones without a single issue or it will give you major headaches. Just a thought...

First, what is your main priority with a new pre/pro?
Is it more for Music, like very good audio quality for listening to 2-channel Stereo from its Analog inputs, or is it more for Movies from its digital HDMI inputs, or is it both?
Also, are you looking for a great Auto Room Calibration and EQ system?
Also, are you looking for a great Video Processor?
Also, are you looking for issues-free?

I am familiar with your Rotel RSP-1068 pre/pro, and I know it has a very good sound from its analog inputs (more so than its digital ones), and I also know that it has that excellent HDCD decoder.
But I also know that it is obsolete as far as Blu-rays are concern with direct digital HDMI connections and the high res audio codecs through it.
But you can bypass this by using its analog multichannel inputs, and doing the decoding in your Blu-ray player.
* And actually I am quite familiar with all your Rotel gear.

Answer the few questions I just asked you here, and accordingly I will talk you In or Out.

Briefly, what are you intending to do? ...And that your actual Rotel pre/pro cannot.

Cheers,
Bob

Personally I prefer the Audio quality via that route (Analog connections too).
