Question any theories on this lack of news?

this isn't another one of those threads where i will be asking about paramount/universal announcments or when we will be receiving titles from them because the fact is, they have to release on blu (we know it, they know it) it's just a matter of when

my question however is why do you think announcements havn't been made? apart from universal's lackluster "announcement" why does everyone think they are waiting?

to me, with blu ray's victory ALL over the news it would have been a perfect time to promote the format and to have official announcements from both studios to get people to buy into the format. i think sales would have reached all time highs just through their announcements. people need reassurance and it was the perfect time for it.

i personally think they have let the matter fizzle and if they are to make a bigger announcement or "official statement" soon that it may not mean as much. i believe timing was crucial and both of them missed out on a glorious opporunity to boost sales.

my opinion:

-i personally believe paramount hasnt made an announcement because of their "pride" and are just going start releasing on blu ray as if nothing happened

-as for universal, i take their subpar announcement as a way of still having people concerned with hd dvd so they can sell off as much of their remaining stock as possible

whats everyone else's thoughts on the issue?

I've got a theory on the lack of news...

Now, stay with me on this theory, because it's a doozy...

Anyway, I think the lack of news is due to there being no news.

I know, I know. Go ahead and call my a crazy, a conspiracy theorist, or whatever. But that's how I feel about this.

And if you've gotten your head around that mindblower, how about something even more cosmic, dude?
How about--whoa--maybe Universal doesn't have any Blu mastering facilities yet, and even if they just got them installed, it's going to be another few months before they actually can produce anything with them?

(I mean, that's like..."What if MGM/UA had to pull all their '07-'08 titles because they found out nobody was using MPEG-2 anymore", isn't it?)

all i know is when it happens i personally will be shelling a lot of money out on past releases from universal and paramount so probably the longer and more wide spread they are the better

Does not bother me at all. Their are so many great Blu ray movies coming from the studios that support the format that I can wait until Uni and Para get their act together.

IMHO it is as simple as there is no glory and most likely nothing more in it for them. How smart do you look by making a big announcement that you are stopping a dead format and going with the lie one. My guess we will hear from them when movies are more or less ready to come out.

Umm....Universal have to start from scratch - tool up and get used to using different java instead of HDi etc

Paramount already had blu-ray's ready to ship and manufacturing equipment so they have no real excuse. They may want to re-encode a lot of what they did for HD-DVD to make use of the extra space though.

i think the bda shipped paramount, universal, and toshiba all off to a remote island where they are forced to wear exploding collars and battle each other to the death with items ranging from frying pans to spear guns, while avoiding so called danger zones.

The economy blows right now! Companies aren't going to put themselves out there with risks when retail sales have been the worst in years. Producing millions of disks and retooling plants costs alot of money and frankly there isn't a large enough market for BD's at the moment. Look for BD's to take off at the end of the year and companies can count on Holiday sales to soften any volatility in sales.

The irony is that the companies that stay cool during slowdowns and prepare to take advantage of the inevitable upturn are the ones that blow right by the competition.

So, historically speaking, the companies not taking the risk are the ones taking the biggest risk.
