Default Please Help

Hello everyone,

I just set up my new home theater system but ran into a couple problems. First off, my subwoofer is powered on but getting no kind of bass at all or anything. Second, the picture seems to be normal and not that good. The sound is great, but my tv keeps showing that its in 480p and I can't change it. I went to the settings where it says detect HDMI devices, but says there are none connected, but everything is hooked up and watching a movie as we speak. Running HDMI cables from my PS3 to my reciever and HDMI out from my reciever to TV. Any help would be most appreciated. My equipment I'm using is below.

PS3- Blu Ray player
Reciver- onkyo TX-SR805
Sony Bravia 46' LCD V Series
Yamaha subwoofer
Phoenix gold HDMI cables

Thanks again,
Tony

try connecting the oem cables first. if it asks you if you want to use hdmi thats detected say no. i have had this issue before and get around it by denying then after complete boot up manually setting the settings.

make sure your sub is connected to the correct input. refer to your manual.

edit: think i misunderstood. was reading as your receiver not detecting hdmi. think im spending too much time online

Check the PS/3 configuration.

Under Sound pick all the 5.1 types of outputs

Under cabling pick HDMI instead of component and RCA and the like.

If there is a choice of BitStream vs Linear PCM, I'd suggest Linear PCM.

Some movies even if they use a subwoofer don't use it for the whole movie. The subwoofer might be idle until that point in the movie.

I would say your PS3 settings are not set correctly if I had to guess.

I would test your sub out on something else, if you can connect it to a friends set up, car set up etc. ... just to make sure the speaker is good, dont know if its brand new and faulty or maybe it was sitting a long while and went bad but I would cehck that first befre you cause urself a migrane ... then if its good go from tehre, try connecting it to the specific input... if it doesnt work plug it in anotehr .. make sure the input is good... etc.

then, if its not htat maybe on ur reciever you got your sub turned down... on mine I can turn the volume all the way down on my sub (somewhat)

if all that doesnt work, throw it off a balcony onto a car.... hey, atleast you'll feel better.

thanks man. will give those all a try. you spend all that money, and expect things to work from day one. definitely gets old fast.
