Default Walmart & New Release....

For those of you have Walmarts that are open 24/7, Will they be putting the new releases out at Midnight or not until tomorrow morning?

I think that if they aren't out at midnight, you can ask someone to get one for you and they will.

They usually do it sometime after Midnight. Depends how quick on the ball the employees are.

normally the guys put them out after there midnight lunch break and can be picked up then. Or they get lazy and leave the box out without putting them away so you can reach in the box and take what you need.

Or they put them out a week or so before their release. I got Sunshine from Wal-mart 5 days before it was supposed to be out.

Out of all the retailers Wal-mart seems to be most lax on when their movies hit the shelves. But I'm not complaining

That is if they even stock the titles. It seems like they are only stocking new movies. They are not stocking catalog titles when they are released here.

There's several reasons for that. There's threads discussing it. But Blu-Ray is still a very small market share compared to regular DVD. And Wal-Mart doesn't have a very large area dedicated to Blu-Ray movies. So it only makes sense that they only stock the New Titles and pass on catalog titles for the most part. As the format becomes more mainstream and they get rid of HD-DVD, expect their selection to expand.

I think I'm gonna go hang around Walmart around midnight tonight and see if they put out I Am Legend. I used to do that with big releases on DVD with friends, it was kind of fun to get it 'before everyone else'. This will be the first time I'll have done that for a Blu-ray movie.

i would go to walmart in my area at 7 to 9 in the morning on release days in the past and they dont have them out. i would be told i would have to wait for the dept mgr to get there and if they were there, their regular prices until again, the mgr got there to change the prices to sale prices.

my three local walmarts are open 24 hours. they usually do not have the movies available until 3-4:00am. beforehand, they have to get the stock out (which includes sd-dvds) and sort them out. the boxes are not labelled (and they got a ton of boxes to sort) and the grave shift people are none too quick in sorting things out.

i did notice one thing. none of the walmarts carry any catalog blu-ray titles (e.g. ID4, I Robot, Ice Age) on day of release. they ONLY bring in new day and date releases. so if I want any older movies, I have to look elsewhere.

Most stores will put out titles at Midnight, but if they don't you can ask them to get it for you. If the store is good they will have things prepped in advance and ready for the night crew to pull to the floor. I work there and we get new movies in really early. If its a big release they will surely have it ready to roll.

Now on a sad note, I have only noticed the above with s-dvd releases. Most stores only get a few copies of new releases in Blu-Ray. It is, as of right now not seen as the priority to rush to the floor. Because most people still rush in for the s-dvd. So even in a big release the Blu-ray could very well not make it out till later in the day when the department manager is there. Several times on release day I have mention to the electronics dept the Blu-ray copies are not out.

The only exception I saw was when Resident Evil Extinction came out. It came in a huge shipper that had the s-dvd and the blu-ray version, and the blu-ray RE 3-pack all on the same shipper. They pulled that out to the floor ready to go sometime around midnight. So if a shipper has both in it, you might get lucky and find the Blu-Ray of I Am Legend out early as well.

So go for it at midnight. If its not there ask for it. Report back and let us know what happened. Curious to see if your store there runs the same as the 5 Wal-Marts where I live.

When I was at the one I work at, I saw a tag for both I Am Legend and Enchanted, they were $29.96 and $24.96 respectively.

OK Guys,

I just got back from the local Walmart, both I Am Legend, and Enchanted were already on the shelves @ about 5 till Midnight. Got them both for $ 44.65.

I am Legend $ 27.98
Enchanted $ 22.98 - $ 10.00 = $12.98

How do you get $10.00 off Enchanted?

Congrats on the purchases by the way. I'm waiting on Legend to come from Amazon. But might pick up Enchanted tomorrow.
