Tesco is not my favourite store, but a welcome move.

I think it's time that the HD-DVD white flag was officially waved... not to do so looks petulant and stupid.

Tesco? Hmm... not really a big thing AFTER yesterday's events. Silly Tesco. I'm assuming ASDA is doing the same thing as Walmart? They are the same company...

Do both Tesco and Asda even sell BD's? Their selection of DVD's was rather small from what I remember.

In very short order (tomorrow even?) announcements like this will be moot, because there will only be Blu-ray to sell anyway.

ASDA? I lived between to supermarket: ASDA and Tesco. Tesco carries only one BD and 0 HD DVD: SPiderman 3, ASDA carries select BD and HD DVD.

Same company, different action.

Default NEWS: Tesco to back Blu-Ray!

Blu-Ray in the frame

THE world’s top retailers are moving to end the confusing battle over the next generation of DVD players. On Friday Wal-Mart, the world’s biggest retailer, finally backed the Blu-Ray DVD format developed by Sony. Tesco, Britain’s top retailer, is considering a similar move. Sony’s Blu-Ray has been gathering momentum over rival HD DVD format in recent months after a long confusing battle that manufacturers and retailers have blamed for slow sales of the new generation of high-definition DVD format.

Tesco plc is a British-based international grocery and general merchandising retail chain. It is the largest British retailer by both global sales and domestic market share, and is the world's third-largest retailer, behind Wal-Mart of the United States and Carrefour of France.

Tesco now controls just over 30% of the grocery market in the UK, approximate to the combined market share of its closest rivals, Asda and Sainsbury's. In 2007, the supermarket chain announced over £2.55 billion in profits.

Originally specialising in food, it has diversified into areas such as discount clothes, consumer electronics, consumer financial services, selling and renting DVDs,[3] compact discs and music downloads, Internet service, consumer telecoms, consumer health insurance, consumer dental plans and budget software. It is now entering into the housing market, with a self-advertising website called Tesco Property Market.

Tesco are evil. As evil as Wal-Mart. I wouldn't step foot inside one if you paid me Tesco-towns are an abomination.

I'll get my Blus somewhere else.
