Default 5 Free Blu-ray Movies Offer Gone???

I could have purchased the PS3 at Christmas time with a free game or movie, plus 10 free movies from Walmart (day after Christmas), in addition to the 5 free BD movie offer. I could have spent $400 and had 16 FREE BD titles! I just didn't have the money and my wife probably would have killed me.

So.. Here I sit with my HD-DVD player and movies and no BD player. I would have gotten in sooner, but money is tight. I am thinking of selling off other things so I can buy a PS3 40 gig. My question is whether anyone knows if the free movies will be coming back? I'd hate to buy a player right now after losing out on HD-DVD and then not get any free BD titles additionally. ALL info is welcome. THANK YOU! (keeping fingers crossed for good news)

I would like an answer too - I just bought another one today. Wanted another 80, but apparently they only make the 40 GB now.

Don't think they are doing any free BD deals right now.

From what I have read the Free movies were Blu-ray's answer to the Free movie offers that HD DVD had out (Toshiba). Since Toshiba & HD are out of the picture I can't imagine we'll see any "free offers" in the near term. Perhaps closer to Xmas when newer Blu-ray palyers are released (especially if the economic climate remains tight and consumers are slow to make the switch from standard DVD's.

I would love to see them have an offer...likely would make me move from my current positioon of watching (spent too much on HD to make the quick jump back in to high-def). I'm going to watch the next 60-120 day to see what transpires...too soon to the Toshiba announcement to see which way they'll go.

Great. I bought my first PS3 before the deal, and my 2nd one after the deal...

I feel ya. I bought mine one day after the 5 free BD promotion. Ended on a Sat and bought on a Sun. I was pissed.

Just pure specualtion here. Now that the HD competition has been eliminated, I would not expect a 5-free promotion any time soon. My reasoning is this: we are still in the early adopter phase for this technology and thus prices of players and BD's will continue to reflect that. After all the unlucky HDDVD people have bought into blu-ray (at top player prices) then the real war will begin against DVD. I'd expect this intermediate phase to last through 2008. This will also allow time for the BD bugs to be worked out. In 2009, I could see the real war against dvd beginning in earnest and then I could envision some consumer incentives will appear on BD player prices, free BD offers and lowered BD prices.

That's how i see it....

There will not be any free movie promotions with players for the foreseeable future. If we do ever see it again it would be around the Christmas season to help player sales. I do believe the only reason we ever saw promotions like that was for the BDA to match Toshiba's offer.

Future Shop in Canada is offering 3 Blu-ray disks with EVERY Blu-ray player purchase (PS3 excluded)...no coupons, no mail in forms...take the movies when you buy! Pick your Blu-ray mahione and get your library off to a jump start!!

They are giving you "I am Legend, Ratatouille and Hitman"...two of the three would be considered excellent additions to anyone's collection!

This is on top of the trade-in offer for HD Player owners of $100.00 towards either of the two dual format players (LG & Samsung) while stock lasts.

I also understand that Best Buy in Canada is giving everyone who bought a HD player at Best Buy before February 23? (perhaps the 19th) a $50.00 gift card (keep the player, use the giftcard against any purchase at Best Buy.

I'm impressed to see the retailers throwing some goodwill towards former HD buyers and sweetening the pot for prospective new blu-ray player buyers!!

Maybe there is more to come?

i think Hd-Dvd and Blu-ray were only doing that just temporarily because the last one ended on January 31st of 2008 and Toshiba gave up in the middle of February so either Toshiba was already having its concerns of continuing the format war even then and thus the end of that promotion or it wasnt meant to continue for so long

You may still be able to find a 40 gigger with the free copy of Spiderman 3 in it. I noticed a couple of them mixed in with the others at our Best Buy.

If it's any consolation, many of the movies in those offers are movies you probably wouldn't watch twice. As for the good ones, check out amazon.com. Most of the good movies from those offers as well as others are down to really low prices.

I actually bought a PS3 during the promotion. I sent the mail requesting for the free movies. I am suppose to wait 6-8 weeks for the 5 movies to be delivered to me. It has been more than 2 months and I still have not receive anything.
