Default New Spe-Krs

Hi Everyone...

I have the klipsch 62's for fronts and center and I was wondering if it'd be worth replacing them with something better... thinking if spending $3000 or less to replace left & right front... keep the RF62 center. Is it worth it? If so what would you recommend?

cheers

Jeffy

I'd replace the center..... you need to timber match... so try to stretch your budget, or shop within your budget for Fronts and Center......

I'd get some Thiels if you're gonna just keep your center though......

Hell's yes - if you're thinking of getting into electrostatics then I would definitely recommend Maggies or Martin Logan's.

However the sound isn't for everyone. For some once you gone to electrostatics, you never come back. I believe with the Maggies you get 30 days in home, so it's a safe trial for sure.

If someone is getting into electrostatics though it's a whole different ball game - practically zero distortion, unparalleled response time and accuracy.

Not too many choices in that field - Martin Logan, Magnepan, Quad, Audiostatic, Sound Lab.

I wish I could afford a pair of Martin Logan Summit speakers or the Magnepan 20.1

The Magnepans are pure electrostatic panels, with no cone at all for bass.

Am I reading that right... 898,00 euros? Isn't that like $136,370.13 US?

Per pair?

Am I reading that right?

I am interested in finding some affordable speakers that would be worthy of SACD and Uncompressed audio. Affordable means the each speaker would have to cost around $100-200 max.
What can I get in that price range? On the other hand, what is the ideal speaker... price for quality?

Timber (pronounced TIM-buhr) is “wood or lumber” in its generic mass noun use, and as a count noun it is “a very large piece of wood of a size for use in heavy construction.”

Timbre (usually pronounced TAM-buhr or TAMBR, but occasionally TIM-buhr) is the name for the difference in sound that makes a note played on one instrument—say, a clarinet—sound different from the same note played on another—say, a trumpet.

You want to look for Timbre match.

Grab some bookshelves from Axiom - you have 30 days in home to try them.

http://www.axiomaudio.com/m3ti_main.html

US$330/pair - that's $165/speaker.

+/- 3dB 60Hz-22kHz.
Max 175 Watts
LFE - 50Hz

Two completely different sounds. Either you're looking for ESL's or you're not.

I thought more around the lines of 1.6's ( I think that's what they are) the more budget-concious Thiel!!

I wouldn't exactly call $3,000 budget conscious!

They used to be closer to $4,000/pair when they first came out but they're closer to the OP's budget now.

You can get a pair of CS2.4's from Crutchfield for US$2,450 with free shipping.
